Hi,
Amazing it is to me, just how deep Proverbs is.
Wonderful it is to me, and more...., how God gets involved in His Own words, then slowly teaches each reader, over time, just what, He, Means by these words.
LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

Yes God's careful words of wisdom is what governs the way we live. The second verse in proverbs 16 For their is a way that seems right unto man but it only leads to death helps to demonstrate the power of the lords presence.

Pro 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged. 20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good. 21 The sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

Proverbs 16:21 is a perfect verse that talks about not only how pleasing it is to praise the lord but how much you learn by praising the lord.

Proverbs 16:32 also reminds me of james slow to speak slow to anger quick to...

Proverbs 16:

The root of all evil.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." ~Pro 16:18

What was Satan's downfall? Hatred? Deception? A Murderous heart?

There's a bottom line, a "root" here that started it all. An "Achilles heel", if you will.

And that Achilles heel was pride.

He wanted to be "Creator", not the "created". He wanted to "de-throne" God, the Creator, and take His place on the throne.

And it is the same with man. Man wants to be their own "god". They would like to oust God. To "de-throne" God.

Here's the bottom line.

They "hate" God, just like Satan did, as Lucifer, when sin was found in his heart. By golly, man would "kill" God if they could. They already did, in essence, when they killed His only begotten Son when He was in the flesh. They came face to face with perfect innocence, and they killed Him, shedding His innocent blood.

Shedding innocent blood is nothing new. It happens every day. And it's perfectly legal. Man can, after all, make those laws that make it perfectly legal to shed innocent blood.

And he already has.

And does.

Millions of times.

iu

And it all originates with pride.

Pride is the antithesis to love.

Pride isn't just Satan's Achilles heel. It's also man's.

That's why Satan fell. And man.

It is one of the 7 things that God hates.

And the very first one on the list.

"These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren." ~Pro 6:16-19

Amen. Pride is powerfully destructive and is the very antithesis to anything of God. It's the exact opposite of love, and is the root cause of "hatred".

That's why God abhors it.

This verse stuck out at me
3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
We all make plans but we sometimes forget to ask God what our ideal plan should be.
That's an excellent point because many of our plans in the past were out of deceit and immorality.

Proverbs 16:

Pleasant words.

Now by the word "pleasant", it is not referring to "flattery" or anything with the object of "manipulation" or "gain" that is behind those words.

It's referring to genuinely uplifting and thus healing words meant to edify, encourage, lift up, and be an "anchor" for someone floundering and being tossed to and fro' like a small ship on an angry sea.

Yes, pleasant, encouraging words can be "healing".

Thank GOD for healing words, amen?

Proverbs 16:

God will bless your plans.

When we commit everything to God, right off the bat, He will of course, be pleased, and therefore THOSE plans, committed to God, WILL succeed, because it is God's WILL that they do, and that is why such plans PLEASE Him.

Because they are "according to HIS will".

How wunnerful is THAT??!!

Proverbs 16:

The "proud in heart".

(This bears repeating. It's is timely right now. God help us.)

"Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished." ~Proverbs 16:5

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." ~Proverbs 16:18

Proverbs 16:
The wisdom to heed God.

It is true that when we "heed" the living God, that He leads us, guides us, protects and defends us, and KEEPS our feet from wandering off like a sheep that wanders off and stumbles, falling on its back (which is reeeeally BAD news for a sheep.....it can kill them).

It is a WISE thing to heed God. And wisdom starts with this:

The FEAR of God.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." ~Pr 9:10

Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.

This one speaks to me. Pride and arrogance are things I constantly battle!

I can relate.
