When you have 70 years of gun-free life experience, you are unlikely to be changed by the opinions of videographers or others.

We have, of course, known some people who died of gunshot wounds over the years. Suicides.

I've known two people who were murdered over the years. A neighbor who played in an Irish band in NYC weekends. He was stabbed walking from the subway to his car at 3 in the morning. The others were all cases of domestic violence (red flag laws would have helped--AR 15's wouldn't have.)

I trust personal experience (the complete safety of my family members and friends who have not owned guns) and statistics (which show that homes with guns are more likely to suffer gun violence than gun-free homes.)

The idea that "everyone" should own AR15's does not take into consideration all those who shouldn't: felons, people with records of domestic violence, the mentally ill, etc. "Everybody" is way too many somebodies.

These look like useful tools for a two class system that supports Tyranny.

A 12 ga, 1 oz. slug has a lot of stopping power, but there are drawbacks, to going with shotgun shells.

Let's take the Mossberg 590M for example. It's a semiauto, which would give good firing speed; if you were being stampeded by 50 man eaters; but the mags only hold 20 rounds max. That means you would have to reload twice to get at least one shot in every pig; but that 20 round mag would add considerable weight to the gun. This would make it more difficult to swing the gun back and forth, to hit the most imminent threats.

Aside from that, you have to carry the weight of those extra mags with you; as you go strolling in the Texas night.

Certainly the stopping power of the 12 ga, 1 oz, is an advantage; but that tradeoff might not be advantageous to someone who is less muscular.

I've seen women hurt themselves with the recoil of 12 ga shotguns.

Chances are you might shoot one person in your lifetime not more so why would you ever need more then one shot at a time and a woman probably couldn't even pick up a gun like that.

I can tell by your speculation that your knowledge on this subject is extremely limited. If you had watched the video, and actually had a basic understanding of the topic of this thread; I wouldn't be pointing this out.

You're being awfully snooty. No, i know little on guns but you didn't stipulate prior knowledge of the subject. I guess i should have stayed out of it assuming there is nothing to learn here.

I can assure that you don't know enough to back up your speculation that a woman can't pick up an AR-15. If you had watched the video in the OP, you would see that women can pick up an AR-15 more easily than any other, or just about any other, long gun.

As a side note, women are generally better marksmen than men too.

I guess i should have stayed out of it assuming there is nothing to learn here.

This gets into firearms, but my choice is based simply on what I'm used to. Rifled slugs are a lot of lead but the ballistics aren't so hot, accuracy isn't that great, and there's a good bit of recoil. The .45-70 I look at from time to time (until I check ammo prices), can get stout on the recoil side, too. That brings me back to the .308 and that leads to the AR-10. With either rifle there's the issue of time spent at the range to sight in and gain proficiency but that holds for any firearm. Technically that holds for rifled slugs, too, but a day at a range shooting rifled slugs doesn't strike me as a fun Saturday. I've shot rifled slugs before and know what to expect from them, and while I can shoot with them, a whole day of it doesn't sound appealing to my shoulder. Maybe with a Limbsaver (tm) but naww.

We used to load up with rifled slugs when bears moved onto the property. Deer hunting, we used 00 Buckshot, but I liked to have a rifled slug as the last round in the magazine, just in case.

As to magazine capacity, with the shotguns I'm thinking about, it's one in the chamber and four in the tube. Grew up with single shots so yes, that's an improvement. You won't take out a drove of hogs with one but usually they don't care to hang around once a round goes off. The exception is one intent on doing you harm, and it takes some persuading to convince it otherwise. That said, I wouldn't turn up my nose at a .308 with a high capacity magazine.
