To the science haters out there this is not a thread for you.

Professional scientists have relied on the average person in the street who have an interest in science but are not qualified to participate in research activities.
The activity is known as citizen science and in fields such as astronomy the research from citizen scientists is at times of such high quality, their work appears in peer reviewed journals.

Here is a general description of citizen science.

Here is a specific example of citizen science.

An area which will impact on citizen science which I am not sure is for the better is AI.

Ooh, I used to be a citizen scientist (well, kind of), though I did not have to do any work. My laptop did all the work, and the motherboard got real hot. I ran a program known as Folding@Home to simulate proteins in cells on my computer from 2018-2019, to advance medical science through distributed computing. Citizen scientists even helped to discover 5 exoplanets in a star system named K2-138, back in 2018 for the first time in human history.

And yes, I am gonna paste this verse again, cos it is basically my favorite Psalm. :)

Psalm 111:2 "Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them."

This verse expresses admiration for God's great creation and works. Scientists engage with these works through their research and discovery. Faith and science complement each other, as both can acknowledge God's presence and power in the natural world. Scientific inquiry can be driven by a belief in a deeper meaning to the universe and a recognition of God's involvement. The verse affirms that studying God's works deepens our appreciation for and connection to the LORD.

Okay if I qv people to this thread the next time I get blistered for blaming some tragedy on the work of scientists?

I do have to say, even though I support science, @sjastro could have made the title to his OP a little toned down. I would have titled the OP this:

"Citizen Scientists - Allowing the general population to partake in the research realm"

Ya -- but the video, which is very informative, uses that term.

Which, of course, supports my contentions about scientists and academia being mainly responsible for mistakes & mayhem.

That is why I dislike modern YouTube, it is a combination of fact, riddled with attacks and opinion. That is why I miss the old YouTube of the early 2010s, where science videos used to be really fun to watch, and informative. Now, some videos have gone on the attack.

I sound like an old-soul stuck before 2013-2016 with nothing better to do.

I was too young for that, but remember the days of slow wi-fi, phones that had awful cameras (terrible for taking photos on vacation), 1 to 2 GHz CPUs, 512 MB RAM, and sub-100 GB hard drives (such as on my mom's first Dell laptop) in the 2000s. I remember we had landlines up until 2016 in my family, as our old house used landlines, but my parents had cell phones since a few years before I was born. My Samsung Galaxy A54 phone has nearly 50x more RAM compared to the 1999 model year HP computer that I played math and reading games on as a kid.

On the contrary the thread title is meant to exactly reflect the expected hostility from one ignorant individual in particular where changing the title to a more innocuous form would make no difference.
One of the highly ignorant comments made against scientists is that they form an exclusive club but citizen science by its very nature is inclusive where professionals and amateurs collaborate.

As part of this inclusive nature, the IAU which this particular individual has a pathological hatred towards because they reclassified Pluto, became aware of an algorithm I developed to enhance my own astronomical images.
They put me in touch with ESO.

ESO were rather incredulous on how I was able to extract such faint detail from an amateur sized telescope.

The story is here.

This is quite a different side to the picture painted by this ignorant individual that the IAU, astronomers and myself are crooks.

I trust that you are fine, in fact, all three of us are fine (you, Sjastro, and myself), as we all are Christ-followers.

At least we prioritize, amen?

Hey, yes, there are science deniers here, but let us not try to judge others, or call someone ignorant. Some scientists can be ignorant also, such as those who promote the trans ideology, when in fact, science itself proved in 1905 that there are only two genders (XX and XY), and not multiple ones, just as the Bible stated millennia ago.

Two genders, proven in 1905: https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/352001

Matthew 7:1-5: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

There is being ignorant with regards to not knowing something as well being ignorant which generates racism, sexism, anti-intellectualism etc.
This particular individual without knowing anything about my sister boldly declared she will burn in hell for being an atheist, or I am a crook for supporting IAU's stance on reclassifying Pluto.

As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, it is a sad state of affairs there are individuals who cannot respectfully disagree but need to express their disagreements in the form of assuming to be morally and ethically superior to those who do not share their opinions.

Um...William Shockley ring a bell? How about Linus Pauling? Justice Oliver Wendell Holms, Jr.? You may argue they were ignorant outside of their fields, yet they were not what anyone would call ignorant people. Like it or not knowledge is more often used to justify a preexisting bias. Not nice to contemplate, but it happens.

If there were an "ignore" option for mosquitos
you'd likely use it.
Just mentioning, ye thread already
being (allowed to be) yet again successfully derailed.
