I agree that the horrible stuff happened in the Old Testament (as far as I remember), but the Old Testament is still part of the Christian Bible. I'm afraid that confuses my simple mind!
Well, the OT is Jesus hidden behind a veil, before forgiveness by Christ's blood was possible. The NT is Jesus uncovering the veil, showing His forgiveness.

Isaiah 7:14 (NIV): "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

Psalm 22:16-18 (NIV): "Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment."

The thing I have a problem with is the idea that it's bad to think critically about all the information available to you at that time, and to not doubt anything you're told. I do remember hearing about the importance of Faith over what a person might consider reason (personally to them) in chapel (e.g. doubting Thomas), but I'm afraid it won't (currently) convince me to accept something as fact, however much I would want to. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, and I really hope I haven't offended you with my response.
I was in a similar position as you are in about 1.5 years ago. But I stuck it out and God held onto me and I'm still here. I basically had to come to the conclusion that I simply don't know everything that's going on but that's okay because God does know everything. I had to decide that He is worth being with and worshipping even when things don't always make sense to me. There will always be unanswered questions I think. And God can certainly handle our questions and scrutiny. But there's more to this life of Faith that God calls us to than knowing everything perfectly. I will be praying for you
