There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and another 500 prophecies will be fulfilled in the last days when the Lord returns to save a faithful remnant of Israel at the end of the tribulation.
And since the rapture is also a significant end-time event, you would expect there should be a few Old Testament scriptures that are prophetic for the saints who will be raptured to the feast of Abraham in heaven, while the “sons of the kingdom” are cast into outer darkness where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth,” Mat 8:11-12.
Matthew 8:11-12 "I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (12) while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
The majority of prophecy teachers believe the “sons of the kingdom” thrown in outer darkness represent the unbelievers who are cast into the darkness of hell where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth,” Mat 8:12.
However when Jesus explained the parable of the wheat and the tares to his disciples he said, the “good seed” that he planted stands for the “sons of the kingdom,” while the tares are the sons of the evil one, Mat 13:37-38.
And in Lamentations “weeping and gnashing of teeth” is not speaking of hell, instead its a description for rebellious Israel who “wept tears of repentance” when they were being disciplined by the Lord, as they were handed over to the Babylonians who “gnashed their teeth” in anger as they persecuted God's disobedient people.
Lam 2:15a-18 All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem: (16) All your enemies rail against you; they hiss, they gnash their teeth, they cry: "We have swallowed her! Ah, this is the day we longed for; now we have it; we see it!" (17) The LORD has done what he purposed; he has carried out his word, which he commanded long ago; he has thrown down without pity; he has made the enemy rejoice over you and exalted the might of your foes. (18) Their heart cried to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!
Now what's interesting about this story is Jesus said it will be as it was in the days of Sodom when God's judgment of unbelieving mankind will take place in the tribulation, Luke 17:28-30. And Jerusalem in the time of the tribulation is also called Sodom and Egypt, Revelation 11:8.
Therefore Abraham's feast with the Lord that was followed by God's judgment of the wicked in Sodom, appears to be prophetic for the heavenly feast of Abraham when God's judgment of rebellious mankind will take place in the tribulation. So with this in mind lets take a closer look at the details of Abraham's feast with the Lord while his nephew Lot was living in the wicked city of Sodom.
Mamre was an Amorite who was an ally of Abraham. And the strong oaks of Mamre could be symbolic for the obedient saints who are called oaks of righteousness that will be raptured to the feast of Abraham, since they do not waver in times of trouble or adversity because of their strong faith in the Lord. God also compares his faithful saints to trees that produce spiritual fruit in their season, Psalms 1:1-3.
Another important point is when the Lord suddenly appeared before Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, he offered to wash the feet of his 3 guests as a humble servant, which is similar to the woman who humbly bowed down and washed the feet of Jesus with her tears.
Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
The three seahs of fine flour that's symbolic for God's life-giving Word is revealed by Jesus when he said the kingdom of heaven is like a woman who hid leaven in three measures of meal till it was all leavened, which is a parable for false teachers who secretly bring destructive heresies and leavened teaching into the Word of God that deceive many within the church, Matthew 13:33, 16:6, 11-12.
2 Pet 2:1-2 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth (in God's Word) will be blasphemed (leavened).
Gal 2:4-5 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in--who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery (by their leavened teaching)-- (5) to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved (and unleavened) for you.
God's promise for the birth of Isaac at the appointed time next year is also an end-time prophecy for Israel, when the promised sons like Isaac will be born-again at a future appointed time in the tribulation, while the raptured saints are at the feast of Abraham in heaven.
Eddie Chumney at hebroots.org said, in Genesis 18:14 the word appointed in Hebrew is Moed that means a set time. And Moed is the same word for the appointed feast days of Israel.
Therefore the Lord's promise for Isaac's birth next year at the appointed time from when they ate unleavened bread, prophetically implies the promised sons like Isaac will be born-again in the distant future at the appointed feast of Unleavened bread.
This hidden prophecy was fulfilled by the disciples when they were born-again during the 7 days of Unleavened bread that began after Passover when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, Galatians 4:28.
And this prophecy will be fulfilled again when the time of life begins for a remnant of Israel who will trust in Jesus at the end of the tribulation, Zec 13:8-9.
Gen 18:14 (KJV) Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Another story that's related to the appointed time for Isaac's birth is when the prophet Elisha told a childless woman whose husband was old, that she would give birth to a son next year at the time of life the following spring, 2 Kings 4:8-17.
2 Kings 4:16-17 And he said, "About this season (next year), at the time of life you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant." (17) But the woman conceived, and she bore a son at the time of life the following spring, as Elisha had said to her
After the feast of Abraham the Lord said, “because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know." Gen 18:20-21.
When the Lord sent the two angelic men to observe the sinfulness of Sodom, Abraham asked, "Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” Gen 18:22-23.
Abraham's question prophetically implies lukewarm Christians who are righteous by faith, could be left behind in the tribulation with the wicked when the rapture takes place for the obedient saints who are ready for the Lord's return, Rev 3:10,16.
And I believe the two heavenly men that were sent to investigate the wickedness of Sodom, represent the two witnesses who will proclaim God's Word in the tribulation when Jerusalem is called Sodom and Egypt, Rev 11:8.
The scriptures say Lot departed from Abraham and traveled east toward the lush Jordan valley that was like Egypt, and then he settled in Sodom, Gen 13:10-12.
Gen 13:10-13 And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) (11) So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. (12) Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. (13) Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD.
Lot who chose to live in the wicked city of Sodom at the time of Abraham's feast with the Lord, is symbolic for the disobedient saints who are seeking after the sinful pleasures of this fallen world that will be left behind and trapped in the wickedness of the tribulation, when the feast of Abraham takes place in heaven, 1 Cor 5:5, 2 Cor 12:21.
Luke 21:34 "But watch yourselves (saints) lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the (sinful) cares of this life, and that day (of the tribulation) come upon you suddenly like a trap
Lot makes unleavened bread for his two angelic guestsWhen the two angelic men arrived in Sodom they met Lot who said, "My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night in the town square." But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate, Gen 19:1-3
Lot spiritually recognized the two heavenly visitors who came to Sodom since he called them lords. And the unleavened bread he prepared for his new guests reveals Lot believed in the God of Abraham and therefore is righteous.
2 Peter 2:7-8 and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (8) (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard);
When all the men of Sodom surrounded Lot's house and wanted to sexually know the two men inside, Lot tried to protect his guests when he said, “I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly.” But the men replied "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them," Gen 19:4-9.
The wicked men of Sodom who threatened Lot and called him an alien and a judge, represents the unbelievers in the tribulation who will persecute Christians since they are aliens and strangers in this sinful world that will be judged by the saints, 1 Peter 2:11, 1 Cor 6:2, Mat 24:9.
1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers (in this world) to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.
Psalms 37:12-13 The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him, (13) but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day (of wrath) is coming.
When the two angels urged Lot and his family to flee from Sodom lest he be swept away in the punishment of the city, he lingered and did not want to leave. So they seized Lot and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and brought him out and set him outside the city, Gen 19:15-16.
Lot who is righteous and was told to flee from the wicked city of Sodom but hesitated to leave, is symbolic for the lukewarm saints who are holding on to the sinful desires of this world that will be left behind in the tribulation, Mat 24:48-51.
And the two angelic men who seized Lot and his family by the hand and led them out of Sodom before it was destroyed, speaks of the Lords mercy for his disobedient saints in the tribulation that will be raptured to heaven just before God's wrath is poured out on unbelieving mankind, Rev 6:16-17, 7:13-17.
Luke 17:29-30 but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all-- (30) so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
1 Thes 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath (for the unbelievers), but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
And since the rapture is also a significant end-time event, you would expect there should be a few Old Testament scriptures that are prophetic for the saints who will be raptured to the feast of Abraham in heaven, while the “sons of the kingdom” are cast into outer darkness where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth,” Mat 8:11-12.

(18) Their heart cried to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears stream down like a torrent day and night! Give yourself no rest, your eyes no respite!
- Since Jesus said “the good seed” are the “sons of the kingdom” who are law-breakers in his kingdom, Mat 13:41,
- and “weeping and gnashing of teeth” represents God's discipline for his rebellious people who “weep tears” of repentance when they are handed over to their enemies who “gnash their teeth” in anger,
- is it possible the “sons of the kingdom” cast in outer darkness represent the lukewarm Laodicean saints that will be spewed out of Jesus mouth into the darkness of the tribulation to be disciplined, while the faithful and obedient saints will be raptured to the feast of Abraham in heaven?
- If this is what the “sons of the kingdom” represent, is there a Biblical story that's prophetic for the worldly saints who will be persecuted in the tribulation when the feast of Abraham takes place in heaven?
Abraham's feast with the Lord
Shortly before God's judgment of the wicked in Sodom, the Lord and two men suddenly appeared before Abraham at the oaks of Mamre when Sarah prepared a meal for their 3 heavenly guests.
The Oaks of Mamre
Its important to understand that prophetic stories at times will have symbolic details that are deeply hidden and often overlooked. For instance, the Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, Genesis 18:1Mamre was an Amorite who was an ally of Abraham.
- The oaks of Mamre that's a possible clue for the faithful saints who are called oaks of righteousness,
- and Abraham who was a humble servant of the Lord,
- are spiritual qualities of the mature saints who seek righteousness and humility that will be raptured to the feast of Abraham in heaven, and hidden from the day of the Lord's anger when the tribulation begins, Zeph 2:3, Rev 3:10.
- Zeph 2:3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the LORD.
- Rev 3:10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth, Rev 3:10
Three seahs of fine flour were made into cakes
The three seahs of fine flour that Sarah quickly made into unleavened cakes represents Jesus who is the bread of life and the Word of God that is our great reward at the feast of Abraham in heaven, when we will fully know as we have been fully known, Genesis 15:1, 18:6, John 6:51, 1 Cor 13:12.Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
At the time appointed Sarah shall give birth to a son
At the feast of Abraham the Lord said he would return about this time next year at the appointed time when Sarah at the age of 90 would give birth to a son, Gen 17:17, 18:10-14.God's promise for the birth of Isaac at the appointed time next year is also an end-time prophecy for Israel, when the promised sons like Isaac will be born-again at a future appointed time in the tribulation, while the raptured saints are at the feast of Abraham in heaven.
2 Kings 4:16-17 And he said, "About this season (next year), at the time of life you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord, O man of God; do not lie to your servant." (17) But the woman conceived, and she bore a son at the time of life the following spring, as Elisha had said to her
- I believe the 3 seahs of unleavened flour that Sarah made into cakes for her 3 heavenly guests at the feast of Abraham, that was followed by the Lord's promise of a son that would be born from Sarah at the appointed time of unleavened bread next year in the spring,
- and Elisha's prophecy for a childless woman who would give birth to a son at the time of life the following spring,
- are two related end-time prophecies that will be fulfilled during the heavenly feast of Abraham in the 3rd millennium from the cross, when a remnant of Israel will believe in Jesus who died for their sins on Passover in the spring, and rose three days later during the feast of unleavened bread, when the appointed time of life begins for the promised sons like Isaac who are born-again by faith in Christ at the end of the tribulation.
- Heb 11:11 By faith (in God) Sarah herself received power to conceive (Isaac), even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
- Gal 4:28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise (born-again through faith in Jesus).
Sodom and Gomorrah
It's important to understand that God's fiery judgment of the wicked in Sodom is prophetic for the Lord's wrath on unbelieving mankind in the tribulation, Luke 17:28-30.After the feast of Abraham the Lord said, “because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me.
Luke 21:34 "But watch yourselves (saints) lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the (sinful) cares of this life, and that day (of the tribulation) come upon you suddenly like a trap

The sons of the kingdom are cast into outer darkness
Lot who believed in the God of Abraham and yet chose to live in the spiritual darkness of Sodom where he was persecuted, is symbolic for the born-again "sons of the kingdom" who are law-breakers that will be cast into the outer darkness of the tribulation to be disciplined, when the disobedient saints will “weep” tears of repentance as the wicked plot against the righteous and “gnash their teeth” in hatred for the lukewarm church, Zep 1:14-15, Mat 13:37-43, 24:9, Luke 13:28, Revelation 3:16.Psalms 37:12-13 The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him, (13) but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day (of wrath) is coming.
