Why the godly die before their time?

Isaiah 57:1
Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.

Does this mean God ends the godly's lives early to spare them from the evil that would have taken place in their lives if they continued living?

Isa 57:1 The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil,
Isa 57:2 He enters into peace; They rest in their beds, Each one who walked in his upright way.

I think that people who don't understand are either not matured yet in their understanding or just don't know God.

I was really sad - and cried - when my Mother-In-Law died (true, LOL) but it was OK because I knew she was saved... Not so when my father died (I was not walking with The Lord then) I cried myself to sleep every night for about a year!!...

and still, my heart hurts for him but this time it's because I'm not sure if he was saved (he was a JW) :(

Death is a tough thing for anyone to deal with. Anyone.

Psa 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.

To answer to OP's question....it's seems that he does take people to spare them from evil to come. (The second part of that verse might also apply to the rapture, by the way.)
My Grandpa died in March at 92 years old. But he was very strong and could've lived a lot longer. My Grandma said that he had started to see the evil in the world and fear for his children and grandchildren. His health started to decline and he died suddenly. I don't know if that applies to the verse you quoted, but it seems to.

Possibly...he loved Jesus. He talked about his death a lot in the last 6 months before he died. I don't know if he knew or sensed it or maybe it was revealed to him. We didn't like to hear him talk about his death, of course.

Regarding the question you asked about Isaiah 57:2...have you ever read Enoch 1?

The spirit distributes to each...individualy....just as he wills.....that is why your father was a JW.

Have confidence in the Lord!....he loved your Father too !

Peace

From the Concordant Literal New Testament

I Corinthians 12

7 Now to each one is being given the manifestation of the spirit, with a view to expedience.
8 For to one, indeed, through the spirit, is being given the word of wisdom, yet to another the word of knowledge, according to the same spirit
9 yet to another faith, by the same spirit, yet to another the graces of healing, by the one spirit,
10 yet to another operations of powerful deeds, yet to another prophecy, yet to another discrimination of spirits, yet to another species of languages, yet to another translation of languages.
11 Now all these one and the same spirit is operating, apportioning to each his own, according as He is intending.
