Jesus himself said that he came to build a Church.

Why then do some churches call themselves "Tabernacle of..." ? All the ones I've seen are far right in their beliefs.

there is a difference between the Church and the building we call the Church... I think that churches who call their building a tabernacle are just trying to make that distinction. The church is not a building it is the people in it and the whole body of christ

Hmm, which ones call themselves a tabernacle? I have not heard that.

I do like the word tabernacle, because the tabernacle was the place where the Lord was and it is symbolic of man with the outer court = body, holy place = soul and holiest of all = our human spirit where Christ dwells.

The church that Christ came to build is not a building. It is His body composed of the believers who are filled with Him as their life and living Him out and expressing Him.

I think of it in these lines. Jesus fought the tabernacles. He came to destroy it and rebuild it in 3 days. When I hear that name, and see the "style" of the church, it reminds me of the legalist priests and the laws that Jesus came to destroy.

Maybe it's not that common where you are, but there are quite a few here.
