Except that Acts 1:8 promised to give the disciples to get the gospel out to Jerusalem and Samaria and the ends of the earth, and then we see the disciples / apostles do just that in the rest of Acts. I don't think there was any theological reason Judgment Day couldn't have happened within a generation of Jesus resurrection. Part of me thinks an argument could be made that God intended to finish the New Testament - but other than that - the only thing holding back Judgement Day is the kindness of God. There is just nothing else we're waiting on. We've won the game, we're in overtime, and seeing how many extra points we can score.
There really is only 2 primary views, Daniels 70 weeks is either completed,(my view) or that it is not completed. All subsequent eschatological views must necessarily spring from those two views. It is true that "imaginary workarounds" have filled most views we know today. These workarounds are well developed around the hearsay evidence of a late date of the Book of Revelation.
