What was your experience when you first got saved?

There are many different experiences that people have reported having when they first repented and ask Christ to come into their life and save them from their sin. I'm curious as to just how many people have those differing experiences. Some experience peace, joy, relief, while others may feel like they have made a wrong turn, although that's usually not the case. Of course, some feel absolutely nothing.

I don't believe in that doctrine and calling one's self saved. As no one is saved until after judgment and resurrected and allowed in heaven.

In fact there have been many that contend with scripture that points out one can lose their salvation.

Great question, Aldebaran! Honestly, as I think back to when I was 17 and just beginning to become fully engaged with pondering over the Lord Jesus, there wasn't just one 'feeling' but two or three that came into my mind and heart. One of those experiences involved a new sense of elation of having come in connection with a new culture that in some strangely beautiful and fascinating way would at times give me "chills" that I never had before running up and down my spine. Sometimes, I would feel this strange feeling while at church (it was a Southern Baptist church), sometimes while at the Christian bookstore I started shopping at, and sometimes while listening to new Christian music I'd never heard before. Not the least of those moments came, too, when I was confronted by the beauty and majesty of Jesus while frequently reading the Gospels.

A second experience was one of a kind of gnawing, sickened feeling I hadn't had previously in regard to the idea of sin and my own shortcomings, many of which were being newly spelled out for me by Christ and His Apostles as I read the New Testament and often heard various sermons at church. I began to realize I had to identify sin in myself and take it seriously .......... and that being "clean" in the Lord felt better than when I'd instead operate as a teenager in a more or less immoral fashion.

As time went on, I had a lot of experiences of an emotional and social nature, but the two or three above were the ones that were most prominent those first 6 to 12 months of my having found Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I was really relieved. It was not long after I had the twins. One rainy wet afternoon after lunch, I sat on my bed and prayed. That day I successfully connected with God. I was healed.
I particularly remember that because the twins were only eight or nine weeks old. My partner was shopping in town for food. I was still on leave at the time.

The basis I'm basing it on is from the belief in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sin, as spelled out in scripture. One example being Acts 16:29-31

"And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

I experienced the purity of truth.

A lot of people speak of the born again experience. Being born can be a rapid dramatic experience. For others. like myself, it is much like a real birth --- slow, painful, exhausting, long and drawn out and quite anti-climatic when it does happen.

For me I was devastated. My life changed completely. I lost many resources, dwindled down to the bare essentials and every day felt like I was dying spiritually for 2-3 years straight. During that time I also started going to church 3-4 times a week, got into a community group, joined a couple ministries, became a member at my church, etc. It was a very very hard process for me. I received grace, favor, and comfort along the way but let me tell you it was not easy. I still feel like my journey hasn’t even started. My experience so far only feels like preparations for whatever is to come.

"Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began" - 2 Timothy 1:8-9

"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy" - Titus 3:4

Salvation is a present reality as it is a future one.

My experience was change in the way I thought, the way I felt, the way I lived as if I was new person (which I am). It is almost like reincarnation, or rather transformation from a state of sin to a state of grace. I still am conscious of the kind of person I use to be and what I am now.

I was 10 years old and in 5th grade at San Gabriel Christian School in San Gabriel California. My homeroom teacher was named Mrs Artz.. One day after home room was dismissed, I went up to Mrs. Artz, and told her I wanted Jesus in my heart . Then in the classroom with just the two of us, she led me in the sinners prayer. I remember crying and feeling really happy. I also remember that when she hugged me, I felt a sense of being hugged by someone else too.

Thanks for asking and making me think about this. I joined the church and was baptized at age 10. This was to please a Grandmother that I loved and was probably the only nice thing I did, well maybe not that bad, but at least one of the few nice things I did as an angry child. I was really angry at my parents for giving up on their marriage and the circumstances that it threw us into.
Fast forward to my early 40’s- I was searching for meaning and looking at different religions and philosophies. Along came a daunting group of older women who showed me love. I really needed love at that point in my life. I had a husband and five children that also needed love. The church where they invited us to homecoming became a real homecoming for our family. One by one we each learned to experience God’s love and to learn of His gift of salvation. I just sorta grew from there. I worked in Christian camps, group home and attended a Christian University. All of these experiences helped me to grow in my relationship with my heavenly Father. One day when my Mother told me “I want what you have.” I had to search and find out just what it was I had.
I was able to share the love, my salvation and the renewal of my mind that had come about over the years. I told her Jesus loved her. He died to save her from her sins and was waiting for her to accept. She accepted. Such peace came as I forgave both her and my Dad. For me I reckon it was a process, long and drawn out. I am not sure when it began, maybe at that first decision God began His work. I am thankful, however it happened. I also remember that God’s timing is not our timing and to Him a day may be a thousand years.
I try to remember when I witness to someone to leave lots of room for each individual personality and circumstances and just let God do the work. Thanks again for asking. Blessings to you.
