We have been discussing a lot on the muslim's Koran and I would like to know what the Talmud teaches.

Are there any anti-christian writings in them and how does it view Jesus in the bible. Thanks.

The Talmud is to the Tanakh what the Hadith are to the Koran.

The Talmud consists of the Mishna and the Gemara. One is rabbinic commentary on the Torah and the other is commentary on that commentary.

Jesus is not mentioned anywhere in the Talmud.
As for whether it addresses Christians, I don't know.

Well, the muslims also have their own "oral" laws, but does that make them Biblical and Scriptural? Some christian denominations also have their own "oral" laws they follow, like the Creeds for example, but they also were man-made. Peace.

LLJ, I've seen you kept making threads on what the Talmud or Koran believes. Why do you keep making these threads when people already explained them to you? It's just the same thread over and over...

The Oral Tradition has always been an important part of Judaism. Infact, it is a part of just about every spiritual tradition. Some traditions like the Native American traditions and Celtic Druids almost exclusively passed down their teachings orally, committing really none of their teachings to writing.

Oral traditions contain a depth of understanding that cannot be communicated exclusively in writ, and the Oral Tradition promotes the direct Teacher/disciple relationship, where one can learn directly from a living Master of the tradition, rather than merely trying to decode ancient texts without understanding the heart of the text.

In the Vedic tradition, we have our written texts passed down to us by past enlightened sages, and indeed these Vedic texts are the bedrock of the Sanatana Dharma; but we also emphasize the need to learn directly from a Living Master (Guru). The Hasidic (Jewish) Rebbe tradition is similar in this regard from what I gather...

Yes, we can see that also in the various christian denominations of Christianity [note the "pope"] But what sayeth the Holy Scriptures?

Zeph 1:2 " I will utterly consume everything From the face of the land," Says the LORD; 3 "I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, The fish of the sea, And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land," Says the LORD. 4 "I will stretch out My hand against Judah, And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off every trace of Baal from this place, The names of the idolatrous priests with the [pagan] priests --[SIZE=+2] [/SIZE]

But what saith the Holy Bhagavad Gita? :)

Acquiring transcendental knowledge is superior to any material sacrifice ¾ such as giving charity. Because, purification of mind and intellect that eventually leads to the dawn of transcendental knowledge and Self-realization is the sole purpose of any spiritual action. (4.33)

Acquire this transcendental knowledge from a Self-realized master by humble reverence, by sincere inquiry, and by service. The empowered ones, who have realized the Truth, will teach you. (4.34)

Everyone is a son of God, but due to the veils of maya (ignorance) we have fallen into this material universe and forgotten our true identity as spirit-souls and our relationship with God.

Self Realized beings are those who have risen out of this ignorance and realized their True Self and God, and therefore are qualified to help others go back to the spiritual world.

The Lord does not take the responsibility for the good or evil deeds of anybody. The veil of ignorance covers the Self-knowledge; thereby people become deluded and do evil deeds. (5.15)

Transcendental knowledge destroys the ignorance of the Spirit and reveals the Supreme Being just as the sun reveals the beauty of objects of the world. (5.16)

Persons, whose mind and intellect are totally merged in the Supreme Being, who are firmly devoted to the Supreme, who have God as their supreme goal and sole refuge, and whose impurities are destroyed by the knowledge of the self, do not take birth again. (5.17)

For the Abrahamic religion of Christ-ian believers in the Bible, there is only One Name under heaven we can call upon to be saved, and His Name and Words reveal the One True God of Creation.

John 17:6 " I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word

Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

1 Timothy 2:5 For [there is] one God and one Mediator between God and men, [the] Man Christ Jesus,

Hi all!

Our understanding of the Tanakh (what we call what Christians call the "Old Testament") is based not only on the Written Torah but on an unbroken chain of tradition (http://www.aish.com/holidays/shavuot/last/chain.htm) going all the way back to Moses our Teacher that is at the heart of our belief in an Oral Torah as well. We believe that God gave both a Written and an Oral Torah to Moses. The Talmud is a major codification of the Oral Torah. Through these (now written down) oral traditions, we (inter alia) understand how to understand the text of the Written Torah. Ferinstance, the Oral Torah tells us that the adage "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, etc.," was never meant to be taken literally but instead means that someone who gouges out another's eye must compensate him monetarily for the loss of his eye. The Oral Torah tells us about the kosher method of slaughtering animals, referred to in passing in Deuteronomy 12:21. Etc. etc. See http://tinyurl.com/2ffy8 and http://tinyurl.com/2uyfp for a good intro on this very key Jewish concept.

There are actually two Talmuds: The Babylonian Talmud & The Jerusalem Talmud (which was written in Tiberias). They each number many volumes & are like libraries unto themselves. See http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/talmud_&_mishna.html.

See http://talmud.faithweb.com/ & http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Cyprus/8815/ for refutations of the various lies & misunderstandings about, and calumnies against, the Talmud. The Talmud is a favorite whippingboy for all kinds of anti-Semites; unfortunately, all too many people (i.e. http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/talmud1.htm  ; see http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Cyprus/8815/pranaitis.html) tend to lash out against what they do not understand.

Be well!

Yes, I read some of the refutations of the more "vile" passages in there against gentiles and Jesus in particular.
I believe the muslims have also changed or refuted some of the things christians have spoken about in their Koran.
Anyway, thanks for your input and Grace and Peace be to you in the Name of our Lord "Jesus" the "Christ" and G-d His Father. AMEN.

Are you this blatantly disrespectful on purpose?

Hmm. I thought you might still have some "Christ-ian" left in you since you were one for 20 yrs. Maybe be you read too many of the "Left Behind" books as many do, don't know. Peace.

Hosea 13:14 "I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.

Isaiah 28:14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, Who rule this people who [are] in Jerusalem, 15 Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we are in agreement...... 18 Your covenant with death will be atoned/covered over, And your agreement with Sheol will not stand; When the overflowing scourge passes through, Then you will be trampled down by it.

The Talmud is Judaism's holiest book. Its authority takes precedence over the Old Testament in Judaism. Evidence of this may be found in the Talmud itself, Erubin 21b (Soncino edition): "My son, be more careful in the observance of the words of the Scribes than in the words of the Torah (Old Testament)."
The supremacy of the Talmud over the Bible in the Israeli state may also be seen in the case of the Black Ethiopian Jews. Ethiopians have more knowledge of the Old Testament than the Israelis.

Rabbi Joseph D. Soloveitchik is regarded as one of the most influential rabbis of the 20th century, the "unchallenged leader" of Orthodox Judaism and the top international authority on halakha (Jewish religious law). Soloveitchik was responsible for instructing and ordaining more than 2,000 rabbis, "an entire generation" of Jewish leadership.
N.Y. Times religion reporter Ari Goldman described the basis of the rabbi's authority: "Soloveitchik came from a long line of distinguished Talmudic scholars...Until his early 20s, he devoted himself almost exclusively to the study of the Talmud...He came to Yeshiva University's Elchanan Theological Seminary where he remained the pre-eminent teacher in the Talmud...He held the title of Leib Merkin professor of Talmud...sitting with his feet crossed in front of a table bearing an open volume of the Talmud." ( N.Y. Times, April 10, 1993, p. 38).
Nowhere does Goldman refer to Soloveitchik's knowledge of the Bible as the basis for being one of the top world authorities on Jewish law. The rabbi's credentials are predicated upon his mastery of the Talmud. All other studies are clearly secondary. Britain*s Jewish Chronicle of March 26, 1993 states that in religious school (yeshiva), Jews are "devoted to the Talmud to the exclusion of everything else."
The Scribes claim the Talmud is partly a collection of traditions Moses gave them in oral form. These had not yet been written down in Jesus' time. Christ condemned the traditions of the Mishnah (early Talmud) and those who taught it (Scribes and Pharisees), because it nullified Biblical teachings.

Erubin 21b. Whosoever disobeys the rabbis deserves death and will be punished by being boiled in hot excrement in hell.
Jesus is mentioned in the talmud and is given a codename Baalam and his mother mary is said in the talmud Sanhedrin 106a to have slept with carpenters.Jesus is also referred to in the talmud as ben pandora and is said to be boling in his excrement in hell. The talmud Gloats at the jesus for dying at 33 years old. He is also referred to as a sorcerer in
Sanhedrin 43a . Says Jesus ("Yeshu" and in footnote #6, Yeshu "the Nazarene") was executed because he practiced sorcery.
