Heaven - What Is it Like and Where Is it?

who is in heaven:

"The Bible tells us that angels are in heaven. In fact there are myriads of angels-uncountable numbers of heavenly beings-all of them serving the Lord in various ways.

And the saints of God who died on this earth are in heaven. [Note: I mean by this that heaven includes the Old Testament Saints who by faith trusted in God's Word and looked forward to God's redemption at Calvary (which they did not fully understand). It also includes every true believer from every continent and every denomination. Everyone who has genuinely trusted in Christ as Lord and Savior will be there. I also think that children who died before the "age of accountability go to heaven and I would also include those born with such mental limitaitons that they cannot understand the gospel."

it seems there are a lot of beings in heaven

I am a very introverted person
do like spending time with husband & daughter but that's about it

scares me to think about heaven as it seems it will be crowded....will there be a quiet place for introverts?

have thought about this a lot & being around a lot of beings, I would not like it at all

Some of the saints have had visions of heaven.

Heaven as Described by the Saints - Owlcation

I'm an introvert myself, and hard of hearing as well, which can make socialising a chore. But I don't give any thought to either issue in heaven. For one thing I expect to receive full hearing - it would hardly be a glorified body if I was eternally saying "Hang on a sec! Give us a minute to put my hearing aid in, will yer!"

One of Screwtapes's complaints in CS Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters" was that heaven was either silence or music. He insisted the infernal racket of Hell would drown out the peace of heaven.

Hell, on the other hand, will be noisy and no place for introverts.

We will all be changed. The "old order of things" will pass away, and everything will be new, and therefore, I think, different. And it will be about God, not so much about us. There is Scripture that shows that WE will be God's Dwelling place, and other hints that in fact Heaven may even be that very dwelling place —us!

There will be nobody there that anyone else does not like. No introvert will want to be off in a corner. Yet we know it will be our resting place.

“Son,'he said,' ye cannot in your present state understand eternity...That is what mortals misunderstand. They say of some temporal suffering, "No future bliss can make up for it," not knowing that Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even that agony into a glory. And of some sinful pleasure they say "Let me have but this and I'll take the consequences": little dreaming how damnation will spread back and back into their past and contaminate the pleasure of the sin. Both processes begin even before death. The good man's past begins to change so that his forgiven sins and remembered sorrows take on the quality of Heaven: the bad man's past already conforms to his badness and is filled only with dreariness. And that is why...the Blessed will say "We have never lived anywhere except in Heaven, : and the Lost, "We were always in Hell." And both will speak truly.”

We struggle against truth at times

1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)

[9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

This means that nothing now is comparable to what will be...

Paradise and Heaven are linked. People describe intense light and love filling them moving them into love in turn. Comfort and pleasure in this light and love so it feels like the true home. Ladies with small children don't want to return to earth to raise their children. At his request Howard Storm saw the angels in their winged form. Because God is master of time, He can meet you alone and many others at what seems the same time.

There are cities.

People see and take part in the river of living water.

People meet their ancestors. If old foes are there repentant and changed like Saul to Paul, they are not in the greeting party.

All of the souls in Hell were taken to paradise just before Jesus rose from the dead.

One lady Mrs Eadie, described great colours and beauty in the fields of paradise, music from the plants under the great light. She was absorbed in a rose, it was more than just a flower.

Like Paul, you get to see the glory of God in the face of Christ.

There is fruit and drink in Heaven. The tree of life is there and in that youth, so your grand parents look like they are thirty years old.

I think we no longer tire or sleep. And there are works to perform there.

You have access to all knowledge, and many books.

You can look down to earth at your home town.

“Son,'he said,' ye cannot in your present state understand eternity...That is what mortals misunderstand. ...
C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce

CS Lewis felt he owed a lot to George MacDonald (fictionally represented in this passage from "The Great Divorce"). I think he regarded him as his mentor in religious allegory.

George MacDonald - Wikipedia

C. S. Lewis wrote that he regarded MacDonald as his "master": "Picking up a copy of Phantastes one day at a train-station bookstall, I began to read. A few hours later, I knew that I had crossed a great frontier."

While MacDonald was a Christian, the person who taught Lewis to think so analytically was an atheist, William T. Kirkpatrick.

William T. Kirkpatrick - Wikipedia

By this time the Kirkpatrick C.S. Lewis saw had become a stern, ex-Calvinistic "rationalist of the old high and dry nineteenth-century type" with a strong bent toward formal logic, and he sought to transmit this worldview to his pupil. At the time, Lewis completely agreed with this position and goal.[1][2]

Lewis's autobiography, Surprised by Joy (1955), conveys rueful comments to indicate the author's disbelief that a good-faith reader could understand his delight at the intellectual training provided by the Kirkpatrick tutorship. Lewis by this time had begun to grasp his own potential powers, and realized (both at the time and later) that a period of intense dialectical training, such as had been provided by Kirkpatrick, had been necessary to nurture them. This was his summary of the intensity of Kirkpatrick's influence:

My debt to him is very great, my reverence to this day undiminished.[1]

They were two different characters with opposing beliefs, one Christian and one Rationalist, but they both influenced the man who was to become the 20th century's most formidable Christian apologist.

so introverts will suddenly be changed & want to be surrounded by thousands of beings?

as I see it, it would be a nightmare to be around SO many beings

past two yrs of pandemic, I've been home 99% of time & like being away from other people

(exception husband & daughter)

Heaven - What Is it Like and Where Is it?

who is in heaven:

And the saints of God who died on this earth are in heaven. [Note: I mean by this that heaven includes the Old Testament Saints who by faith trusted in God's Word and looked forward to God's redemption at Calvary (which they did not fully understand). I also think that children who died before the "age of accountability go to heaven and I would also include those born with such mental limitaitons that they cannot understand the gospel."

Certainly we agree that God and the angels are in heaven.

John 14:1-3 shows us "how" and therefore when saints get to heaven under normal circumstances.

John 14:
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house (heaven) are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Matt 24:29-31 shows us "how" and therefore when saints are gathered up and taken to heaven

Matt 24:
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

1 Thess 4:13-18 shows how "how" and therefore when the saints are taken to heaven

1 Thess 4:
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Peter 1:13 tells us to be fully focused on that future event --

1 Peter 1:
13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Sin is what causes our worlds woes .... there won't be any sin in heaven and never again ..... so try and image that ;o) Complete peace without ANY worries of any kind.

"with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love," (Ephesians 4:2)

This is how we relate in Jesus who is gentle and humble. And so, this sharing with other Jesus people prepares us to love everyone else in Heaven who loves like Jesus.

What does your husband say? :)
