The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Dear Parc,How can you convince yourself that you've been forgiven?
Great Post Heather!!... and yes I wholly agree - Parc it's high time you get some professional help for this miserable disorder. You won't regret it.Dear Parc,
We are not forgiven because we convince ourselves; we are forgiven because God says that we are. Have you read John 3:16 lately? How about Romans 10:9? Do you think that it inadvertently slipped God's mind that you were going to have religious OCD when He commanded these verses to be included in the Bible? Oh, wait a minute, I know what you're going to say: these verses apply to everyone else in the world except you. I've been there and done that too, and so have half the people on this board. I know the story too well. Let's see, what happens in the next chapter? The absolute terror that you have committed the unpardonable sin wears off just a little bit as you convince yourself that there might be just a tiny ray of hope that you might be saved. Maybe, just maybe that wasn't what was meant by the unpardonable sin. Then, wham! You are hit by a new, slightly different version of the previous thought. Only, this time, it really is THE unpardonable sin. The previous thought was nothing in comparison. This is the one that means certain doom. And so the cycle goes on.
Does this sound familiar? It's OCD. Yes, it's torture, but it's not real. Please, Parc, go to a doctor and get help. Seeking reassurance is perpetuating the cycle and making it worse. Believe the Bible and believe that God knew what He was doing when He created you. Don't believe the OCD. And stop looking for a theological answer for a medical problem. When you get the right treatment for the illness you will feel better spiritually too. Go and find some specialist help. What are you waiting for? Go! Go!
Heather
I'm so sorry Parc, but that's exactly how OCD makes us feel when it's out of control.Hi.
If I accidentally said that "All phrases saying that the 'Holy Spirit is ****', I put a not after it".
Is this blasphemy (If the asterisk is the name of the enemy?).
Sorry, I need to ask. I'm having thoughts of being damned all day long and wishing I wasn't even born.![]()

But going to a psych won't reverse the things which I have said anyway.![]()
No Parc,But going to a psych won't reverse the things which I have said anyway.![]()
There are some instances I'm pretty sure I've accidentally blurted them out, especially the renunciations...Didnt you say your not sure if you said them or not?
You didn't. This over concern about this CAN be a sign of OCD. When I was young, my OCD struggles used to center in some of these areas. This particular area doesn't bother me anymore because I realize now that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is not something that can be done by accident or by someone who's heart is still tender or open to the things of God. Most theologians/pastors offer a "rule of thumb" about this that I agree with~~ "If you have any concern that you have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, you HAVEN"T!"Hello I'm recently new here.
I may have almost accidentally said something against the HS.
Two nights ago I was attacked by Satan, he was using lustful thoughts on me. As I was about to rebuke him, I almost (not fully) rebuke the HS. I manage to stop myself from saying the sentence I was so scaryed that I got my knees and prayed like there was no tomorrow asking God to forgive me. I didn't mean to say it. Now I don't know if I did or did not blasphemy the HS.
"Hi, OCD!" LOL! That's cute, Jay ...and oh, so true!!!Did i just read accidently? Hi OCD![]()
No, you didn't blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Since you may be struggling with OCD, my personal assurance may not mean much to you. But for what it's worth, I used to have those kind of fears too. I only got them under control when I really began to believe and know at deep levels that, as I said earlier, the sin against the Holy Spirit is not committed by someone who is concerned about it. This is my opinion, but also the opinion of myriads of theologians, Bible scholars and pastors too. It doesnt happen accidentally. Again, if you're worried about it, you haven't done it. I think the whole counsel of the Bible supports the fact that God is willing to forgive anyone who is still able and willing to repent. (They haven't turned totally away from God and their heart is not totally. So I didn't go against the Holy Spirit? So I'm still saved?
