what happens if im not baptized ?

Why not just get baptized if you're very religious? It's something we are commanded to do, but it's not required for salvation.

I due wish to be baptized now that I am older, but I don't know if being baptized twice is allowed... I do not think you will go to Hell. Baptism is an OUTWARD sign of an INWARD change. Nothing more nothing less. Not needed for salvation-don't care what ANYONE says. But it is a beautiful way to show the world your personal dedication to Christ. Saved December 11, 2004 and have yet to be baptized. This is the year I plan on doing it. Just got out of a UY marriage and now I am finally free to live more for His Kingdom. That will be my first way of showing it.

Actually you can do it in your own home, have another
Christian baptize you and have some witnesses on hand
for the occasion.

I was dedicated to the Lord as a child also, not immersed in water but sprinkled-it was an occasion my mom stood up with me in front of
the church and dedicated me to the Lord and the church family
made an agreement to "mentor" me in the faith.

I was around 7 yrs. of age when I called upon the Lord/got saved
and was baptized. We moved and went to another church, it was
baptist and they said we had to be baptized again. My mom didn't argue
the point, I was a minor (teen at the time) and I got baptized again.
So I've been sprinkled and dunked in water twice?

So getting wet won't hurt you...regardless of how many times
you do it.

Your salvation isn't dependent upon you being baptized...otherwise
the thief on the cross wouldn't be with the Lord in Paradise.
(Christ told the thief he would be with him in Paradise.)
Faith in Christ, that's what saves us.

I don't see any reason why not. I mean I don't think you need to get baptized twice as an adult. I think getting baptized once when it's your own decision is important.

But getting baptized as a baby, and an adult I think God would be honored by that. As an adult you are saying this is my choice of my own free will.

Thank you so much for your replies! They all make me feel better. its not that i don't want ti get baptized...i don't attend a certain church. i actually teach at a christian school and the people in the church are so judgemental and rude that its always but me off from church.

there's nothing wrong with water baptism unless you see it as something you must do to qualify for salvation - then it becomes a dead work, as salvation must be based exclusively on what Jesus has done (not what He did plus what you do).

I was baptized at a church that I was not a member of. This particular church just wanted to baptize whoever was interested so please find a church that does this. Call the church office. For the record I was baptized (Catholic) as an infant and when I became born-again I was bapitzed as an adult. I really and truly wanted to do it on my own and am glad I did. From what I was told, infant baptism DO count even if you find yourself born-again in Christ.

If you've been baptized once, you don't need to do it again. For those who baptize infants, we see the faith growth when one becomes older as being partially a result of that infant baptism. Infants are not baptized without having Christian parents (or whoever the child's guardian is) because the duty for them is to share the gospel with the child so that exposure along with their baptism will allow the Holy Spirit to work and impart faith. If one has come to faith and was baptized previously, it shows the baptism was valid. Then the people who reject faith, simply do not want to head the nudge of the Holy Spirit.

People are going to tell you many things. I can say from experience that I was never baptized as a child and I certainly regret it. I was raised in a Christian home. I thought I was saved. Never did I look back and wonder if I was truly saved until I was baptized. I have grown tenfold in my faith since my baptism in 2007. Rejecting baptism is a sign of a lack of faith because it IS a command for us. It is necessary, if one is able, for salvation because it shows faith. However, there are times such as if a person was on their deathbed, where baptism isn't possible. In those cases no it's not necessary (i.e. the thief on the cross). Following God's command is not us doing a work, but following the command in faith (the fruit of our faith).

You don't need to be a member of a certain church to be baptized. I will say that church attendance is also very important to your spiritual growth. You aren't be watered. It's also recommended to us in the Bible to fellowship with other believers. Approach a pastor and ask him to baptize you. There need not be witnesses. God sees you.

As others have stated, it's the outward testimony of your death to your old self, and your resurrection to your new life in Christ. It is mandated in the Bible, and I think it's something all believers should strive to do if at all possible. I don't think there's anything wrong with being baptised after you've been saved. I've been a Christian my whole life, and I got "sprinkled" as a kid, but it didn't mean a whole to me once I became an adult. So I got dunked when I was 20 years old, because I wanted to recommit, and then it meant so much more to me.

Whether you go to heaven or not, depends solely if you are trusting in Christs sacrificial atonement on Calvary for your many sins. Then as evidence you genuinely did this and meant this... some changes must occur in your life along the lines of turning from all known lifestyle sins and putting into action serving God and Others in various ways.

If you dont get baptized, your salvation is not jeopardized...the repentent Theif on the cross didnt have time for baptism yet Jesus indicated he is saved. If you dont get baptized, then you are disobeying Gods command to be baptized now that you are saved., and yes, it would grieve God since you have the time and opportunity to do so.

I was baptised (Christened) as a kid- but it never meant anything to me. I was baptised by full immersion in my twenties, when it was MY choice and when I was fully understanding what I was doing.
I didn't have my kids christened, either- they were both dedicated and it was something special to be there when they got baptised together a couple of years ago, having made their own choices and knowing what they were doing.

Not always the case, though. I don't know about others but over here (UK) getting your kids christened is usually seen as the 'thing to do'- in exactly the same way that most couples marry in a church even if they never set foot inside of one normally. It's more to do with an event and making sure they pick the right Godparents.

When I was at school, for example, you could pretty much guarantee that every kid in the class was Christened- with the exception of those of another faith and very rarely those whose parents made a point of not doing so because they didn't hold with religion.
Of the ones baptised, I could safely say that, apart from weddings, funerals and other people's kids' baptisms, around 80-90% of their parents never set foot in a church again - and called themselves 'Christian on forms etc simply because they weren't Muslim/ Jewish/whatever, so for a kid who has been baptised as an infant here, nine times out of ten it was a dress the baby up and have a nice party and cake afterwards event.

I should have elaborated. My denomination doesn't baptize infants without Christian parents/guardians.

That's why I never was baptized until I was an adult and changed denominations. I was terrified of being underwater. Firstly because I had a broken nose and I couldn't go underwater without plugging it first. Secondly because I almost drowned at a young age.

Lutherans typically do pouring so I had no problem with that.

I was baptized twice.. Once as an infant, and another time with a mop bucket full of water being poured over my head in a church parking lot.. The pastor wanted to wait til sunday to fill the tank, and i couldn't wait.
Also, I am not at all religious.. I live Christ and Him crucified.. But religion and faith are not the same.. I live by faith alone.. In doing this, i enjoy being a vessel that God does wonderful things thru.. Things such as showing loving kindness to a stranger.
If you are truly baptized by fire.. That is baptism of the Holy Spirit. Then your eternal salvation is already assured and presently being worked out by Him that has called you.. Blessings...
