Hello dawnsday,

I'm kinda new here, but thought I would tell you "how my mother believed" and she was an agnostic. I can of course...only relay how "she" thought. Well, here was her thoughts about God, religion, faith, and prayer.

From childhood I was taught there was indeed a God, and my whole family is/was jewish and in my eyes not the most faithful family I have ever seen. Anyways, mom told me this: There is a God...maybe, she hated "religion", she had faith that if there was a God, He would be the punishing God of the OT, and as far as prayers went...we were taught..."just in case" to say a Good night prayer, which she did also...but that was the end of the story. Sad, but true...she told me the bible was a "nice fairy tale" but not to be taken too seriously! Then when I became a Christian...she was okay with it...cuz I had been a total heathen until the Lord saved me! Amen!

But, yup, that's about all I knew from her and she would most definately tell others..she was agnostic! Which to this day...I still don't understand! Well, I hope that helped a all! LOL!!! I didn't understand her, and I doubt I really understand why some people are confused about whether or not there is a God! When I sooo believe in Him, amen! Nice to meet you too! Be blessed and hopefully "others" have more answers for you, a sister in Christ, hannah

Firstly, I don't know what you think atheists 'believe', it's more a lack of belief. Agnosticism is always debatable, thhere are different interperations. I always thought of it as more of an 'unsure' than there is/isn't a god.

i'm not going to get into semantics with the "belief/disbelief" wording that atheists always argue. I understand they like to seperate themselves from words attached to religious people, such as faith, belief, etc but the point is: They believe that God does not exist. it's picking.

but yes, I always did take it that agnostics believed that both existance and non-existance were possible. but i have run across some that believe there is a higher power, a generic one, or believe in psychics, ghosts, etc. and was curious about this and wanted to ask around.

I am an agnostic, have been all my life. Agnostics believe that no one can be certain of the existence of god, while atheist have an absolute attitude that god doesn't exist agnostics believe that the idea of the supernatural is unknowable to mankind, that theres is no proof for god or proof that there is a god. A lot of people stereotype agnostics as people who haven't made up their minds yet, this is very untrue, we have came to the conclusion that there is just not enough evidence to absolutely prove either side. That debating the existence of god is futile.

why do u think it takes more faith to be an atheist. It seems pretty easy to believe in what is there than what is not. Not trying to offend you but I have never had any reason to believe in such a thing. I'm trying though. I'm currently on a quest to read the whole bible, read genesis, exodus, and Leviticus so far. Maybe after i understand it more ill see why you think that way. Wish me luck!

No offense taken at all :)

The reason I said that is because God's existence is so overwhelming, just by viewing creation, that to deny wholeheartedly that He exists takes a lot of faith. Agnostics make more sense to me, because at least they leave the door open.

Hope this helps explain. And I'll do more than wish you luck, I'll pray for you!

ppl's brains also seem to work differently. whereas one person's brain may focus towards the tangible, others don't like absolutes and others still function more towards not being able to look at this or that, which is so amazing and think we have all the answer's on how it's done/see it as an accidnt.
