Just in relation to the Beatles another group I have been listening to for a while now is the Hindley Street Country Club. A cover band who were one of the many bands and musicians who developed online following during Covid. Their popularity grew beyond Covid because they were able to replicate origin songs and add their own flair.I was having a discussion in another thread and someone said "let it be" and I thought of the beatles song and had a listen and was reminded of why they are such a classic band. Its interesting that they would sing such a song about Mother Mary, its very Catholic.
But I think it also reflects a time when even the most popular group in the world at that time could sing about religion and belief. Even if Lennon said they were more popular than Jesus Christ which was just an observation. But still it seemed a big issue for the public and reflecting where they were at in regards to belief in God.
But still regardless of the politics its just a classic song. What I like is that its a simple song with a simple melody but its built up into almost an anthem. I like Billy Prestons church style organ playing and if you notice even George Martin the Beatles manager gets in on the song with the shaker.
