The first half was, but the second half went ****. That was Season 1 of course, Season 2 is looking a lot more promising.

The author is currently writing a manga for Accelerator which I hope they do an anime for.

I'm currently watching through Sword Art Online II as well as (American anime) Legend of Korra. I would personally consider both to be some the best animated shows I've seen all year.

I'd pin the GGO arc as somewhere in between the SAO and ALO arcs in the first season (although, aside from being cliché, I didn't really mind the ALO arc).

What's highly recommended for this season?

I myself have started watching; Grisaia no Kajitsu, Trinity Seven: 7-nin no Mahoutsukai, Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, and Madan no Ou to Vanadis. I reckon Fate/Stay Night is an improvement from the original and Madan no Ou to Vanadis shows some promise. Also been continuing from previous season, Sailor Moon, Sword Art Online II, and Akame ga Kill.
