Hello folks. Remember that Farmer's insurance advert, that went: "We are farmers". Well, we kinda are farmers for Christ's Kingdom, sowing a hope for others.

Farmers Insurance Commercial (Duration: 5 seconds)

Date
June 4, 2024 | We Are Farmers [for God’s Kingdom]
Verse
Deuteronomy 28:8 (NIV): "The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you."

Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NIV): "Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap."

2 Timothy 2:6 (NIV): "The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops."

James 1:2-4 (NIV): "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
Explanation
These four passages offer different perspectives on farming, God's blessings, and enduring hardships. Let's examine each passage in turn:
  1. Deuteronomy 28:8: This passage is a promise from God to the Israelites regarding the blessings they would receive if they obeyed His commandments. The verse specifically mentions God blessing their barns and the produce of their labor in the land He had given them. This passage emphasizes the potential prosperity and blessings that come with faithful obedience and hard work.
  2. Ecclesiastes 11:4: This passage advises against being overly concerned with external factors like wind and clouds that are beyond our control. Instead, it encourages action and planting, emphasizing the importance of focusing on what we can do and trusting God for the outcome. While this passage doesn't directly relate to farming, it encourages a mindset of resilience and action in the face of uncertainty.
  3. 2 Timothy 2:6: This passage acknowledges the hard work and dedication of farmers, emphasizing that they should be the first to receive a share of the crops. This verse highlights the importance of labor and diligence in agriculture and encourages fairness and generosity in the distribution of resources.
  4. James 1:2-4: While not directly related to farming, this passage offers wisdom on enduring trials and hardships. It encourages believers to view difficulties as opportunities for growth and maturity, producing perseverance and completing the process of faith. In the context of farming, this passage can be interpreted as a reminder that even in the face of droughts, insect blights, the high prices of fertilizer or seeds, or other challenges, God uses these experiences to shape and develop us.
Societal Relevance
Farmers may face droughts or blights, which can significantly impact their crops and livelihoods. Christians can support local farmers by:
  • Purchasing their produce and products, such as at a farmer's market.
  • Offering prayers and encouragement.
  • Volunteering or donating resources to local agricultural organizations and initiatives.
  • Educating themselves and others about sustainable farming practices and the importance of supporting local agriculture.
To be prepared for hard times in life in general, Christ followers can:
  • Cultivate a deep and personal relationship with Jesus, relying on His presence and strength.
  • Build a strong support network of family, friends, and fellow believers, if possible.
  • Live simple and intentional lives, prioritizing essential needs and avoiding unnecessary debt.
  • Develop skills and knowledge that can be useful in various circumstances.
  • Practice gratitude, contentment, and trust in God's plan for their lives.
