I agree that Trump should have given a heads up to our NATO allies. With regard to US military, I suspect that he got any advice that he though he needed. He probably called up Hannity.

Trump indeed do ONE in Syria. The goal was to remove ISIS from the direct control of any territories. Now, he wants out.

In Afghanistan, our goal could be to a TWO for the areas around Kabul, the Afghan government, and withdrawal from the rest. Trump is considering this, as well as complete withdrawal. STRATEGY ONE was secure the Kabul and to have elections.

So, for me, if we are going to have troops in the region (Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar), it may be reasonable to have some troops and an airbase in Kabul (actually 25 miles NE in Bagram).

Exactly. Had those soldiers stayed put, Turkey wouldn't have invaded in the first place.

The Turkish invasion was inevitable.

No, it is not, and will not be in the foreseeable future. Our force, small as it was, was at least temporarily blocking a Turkish invasion. Removing it unilaterally and without so much as advance notice--even to the Pentagon--was a rash thing to do. Don't be sucked in by the Right's narrative that the only alternates were pulling out in the way Trump did (and demanding Turkey not invade after the fact) or leaving them there forever.

There will always be a pretense for keeping the troops in Syria - a false one. It wasn't about fighting ISIS before, and it isn't about protecting the Kurds now. To insist that conditions for US withdrawal must be "perfect" is advocate keeping them there indefinitely. Consider Afghanistan, where we have been for 18 years, consistently told that if we hold out just a little longer it will become stable. But again, the Pentagon is not telling us the truth about the real reason why the troops are there.

So in summary:

1. The troops should not be in Syria and never should have been there in the first place.
2. Ergo, the troops should leave, regardless of how it affects the situation on the ground.

Even if this were granted, it would still be better if the withdrawal of US troops was planned in advance, rather than the military finding out about it afterwards, and having to scramble to get US troops out while supply lines are being overrun by Turkish soldiers. As it is, Trump's rash decision is putting troops at risk. Needlessly.

Assad is the only friend Christians have in Syria. Trump's pullout from Syria strengthens Assad and furthers the unification of Syria and an end to the bloodshed.

Assad is exactly the man, who's job it is, to protect the northern borders of his own country. The Syrian Kurds and Christians falling back into allegiance with Assad restores the natural balance of power in the region. And Assad is one of the very few friends Christians in the region still have.
