That probably remains to be seen at the nuts and bolts level. What agency would do this reuniting and how? On the policy level, I think Homan has said that families will be able to choose whether to all be deported together, or separated by citizenship status. Not clear there, either, about where the kids would go if they choose to be separated. Could the parents nominate a guardian, or will Uncle Sam?

Going home with the family dosen't sound so bad. Get a free flight, experience the parents homeland and culture, and have the ability to return to the United States legally at a future time.

So in the current scheme of things, if ICE arrests undocumented mom and dad at home, what happens to their citizen kids at school? Is there an effort to reunite kids with parents before deportation or are they placed into the U.S foster care system?
Well deportion takes time. They cannot just arrest people and put them on a plane. This, maybe they should asks the parents if they would whether take the kids with them ( with the kids being able to come back like any citizen upon reaching the age if majority OR would the parents like to place them in the foster system.

I am not asking about the ideal. What is current practice?

Now, that I could not tell you I can tell you that no matter what people want you cannot just arrest people and put them on a plane ten minutes later.

Well, we'll see how far the needle moves on birthright citizenship.
Birthright cititzenship would apply to people born here not to anyone wishing to come here. If someone is a citizen then for the most part they can come back at any time ( in this case upon reaching the age of majority).

Trump has ordered that this stop from now going forward. If that order somehow survives the courts, he could seek as a next step to retroactively remove the putative citizenship of others like these deportee children born here.

Would it really be reasonable to try that though?

Quaker groups file suit over the end of policy restricting ICE arrests in houses of worship

The suit appears to be the first from a faith-based organization challenging the change in court.

The lawsuit, which was filed in federal district court in Maryland on Monday, alleges, “The very threat of that [immigration] enforcement deters congregants from attending services, especially members of immigrant communities,” and argues that attending religious services is at the heart of the “guarantee of religious liberty.”

Apparently.

Fear of increased ICE raids have already negatively affected the nation’s agricultural sector, causing alarm that food prices could skyrocket in the near future as a result of Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies.

Bakersfield, California, saw a massive drop off in the number of field workers showing up for work last week after Border Patrol agents in unmarked Chevy Suburbans rounded up and detained immigrants in the area, profiling individuals they believed to be field workers, reported CalMatters.* The end result: acres of unpicked oranges roasting in the California sun at the height of the season.

“We’re in the middle of our citrus harvesting,” Casey Creamer, president of the industry group California Citrus Mutual, told CalMatters. “This sent shockwaves through the entire community. People aren’t going to work and kids aren’t going to school. Yesterday about 25 percent of the workforce, today 75 percent didn’t show up.”

On the plus side, if anyone has ever dreamed of picking citrus as a career, now's your chance.

Yeah I’m sure this is going to have a significant impact on inflation. So I don’t want to hear any complaining about inflation increase from these people who are in support of Trump’s decision here. You asked for it, you got it, now everyone has to live with it. Working in concrete demolition for 29 years I happen to know countless people who came to America illegally. They got a job, got their papers, and became US citizens because they were hard working honest people just looking for an opportunity to better their lives. But I understand if some people claiming to be Christians don’t care about that, I mean hey, as long as it’s your family that isn’t starving that’s all that matters, right?

I personally have NO problem with such people getting citizenship with the "catch" I have stated in earlier posts. This does not mean we do not tighten rules to stop the flow, as well.

It just saddens me because the places Trump is targeting are not typical places one would go to find criminals. I’d be willing to bet that when your family and my family came to America looking for a better life, they probably didn’t have any papers either. They were just honest hardworking people looking for a better life for their family. I know how hard it is to get into this country legally because my wife and two daughters are from the Philippines and I know that trying to do that on a Mexican wage is impossible because I was barely able to do it being a US citizen born and raised here in America. I’ve lived in Texas my entire life of over 50 years and I’ve never witnessed any problems from immigrants. Sure immigrants commit crimes but nowhere near as many as US citizens do, not even close my friend. The people Americans have to fear more on a daily basis is other Americans born & raised here, more than any other demographic on this planet.

Why do you think it would be so popuar?
A majority of Republicans favor the elimination of birthright citizenship. I don't think I'm going out too far on a limb to say that his most ardent supporters would want to make it retroactive.

I’m a republican and I’m completely opposed to the idea. I think the idea fringes on supremacy.

In this case, it appears the consequence is school children being raided by armed federal agents. Seems like a totally reasonable response.
I wasn’t referring to school children….
