For a group who claims to be super patriots, MAGA sure hates their own government. The irony of it all.
I'm not a Patriot. I have only one father; and he is in heaven.
I love my government, as created by this nation's founders.
"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."
Patrick Henry
"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by the gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpation." --President James Madison (1751-1836) speech, Virginia Convention, 1788
"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home." --James Madison
"...we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...we [will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers. And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent ...till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery. And the foreshores of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression. ----- President Thomas Jefferson
"I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."
— James Madison
"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." -- Thomas Jefferson
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." --Benjamin Franklin
"If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare,
and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare,
they may take the care of religion into their own hands;
they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish
and pay them out of their public treasury;
they may take into their own hands the education of children,
establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union;
they may assume the provision of the poor;
they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads;
in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation
down to the most minute object of police,
would be thrown under the power of Congress.... Were the power
of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for,
it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature
of the limited Government established by the people of America." --James Madison
"Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the design of ambition." --Thomas Jefferson
"Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one." --Thomas Paine
"That government is best which governs least." ---Henry David Thoreau
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous
servant and a fearful master." - George Washington
'"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen" . — Samuel Adams
I have more if you still don't understand what it is to be a Conservative American.
