Michelina had a good question in the thread about the Chair of St. Peter - who are the statues surrounding the Chair? She suggested a trivia thread, so here it is. :)

I'll start.

In leap year, when is Leap Day, whose feast day is it, and how does it affect the feasts near it? (I'm referring to the 1962 and earlier calendar here.)

I'll give blessings to whoever gets it. Bonus points if you know why.

Instead of starting us out with the final Jeopardy question, how about a few $100 questions first?!?!

"What is no, Alex?" ;)

Besides, it's one of my favourite rubrics. And I already gave you the answer - you just have to know where to look. :)

Let me take a shot:

In Leap Year we move St. Matthew from the 24th to the 29th.
Then, move St. Gabrielis, from the 27th to the 28th...but not in all circumstances.

Am I close?

Sort of, but no. :)

Would changing Matthew to Matthias make a difference? Sorry for the sloppy translating, I have a cold.

It would help. Still not there. :)

And remember it's a three-part question. Why? Because I know way more about the rubrics of the Office than is good for anyone, especially the people I feel compelled to share them with. :D

OK, I think I did my translating right this time:

in Leap Year the Vigil and Feast of St. Matthias are kept on Feb. 24 and 25 and the Feast of St. Gabriel on Feb. 28 instead of the 27th.

But plese don't ask me WHY! LOL

I also notice you have St. Matthias, Apostle, on his traditional feast day of February 24. He and the saints on the 25th through the 28th get moved to one day later in leap year, since the Roman leap day is not the 29th but sexto Kalendas Martii, February 24. The Vigil of St. Matthias then moves from its commemoration on the 23rd to the leap day 24th, although it won't happen again until 2020 because vigils are dropped during Lent.

That's cheating! That's my answer! :) You're supposed to know these things! ;) But I'll be nice and give you both blessings anyway.

The leap day is indeed the 24th, sexto kalendas Martii, not the 29th, pridie kalendas Martii. Why? Because the Romans did it that way.

February 25th in leap year, by the way, is bis sexto kalendas Martii (again the 6th day before March 1), which is where the word "bissextile" comes from.

I'll make the next question easier: Where does the Domine, non sum dignus come from, and how is it changed?

Lord, I am not worthy.

Words of the centurion to Our Lord when He offered to go to his house to cure his daughter; repeated by the priest at Mass three times before he communicates and three times before giving Communion to the people.

But knowing you, you want MORE right????:D

;)

How is what we say at Mass different from the words of the centurion?

Feel free to come up with the next question, too. "I'll take Rubrics for $2000, Alex." ;)
