What! How are they still a priest?

I don't want to reveal his name or anything else but I just want to point out that just because someone is a priest doesn't mean they have common sense.

Very true. I saw some of that when I was in Virginia Beach and haven't been to a Greek parish since.

yep. my brain tends to shut down when someone says Bill Gates is this Bond villain, manipulating the world to curb its population.
I have to say I don't think that a wise thing to do, Fr Matt. Any claim ought to be considered on its evidence. I see plenty of evidence that Gates desires to influence affairs on this planet, and in terms that he thinks good, using his vast wealth. I have seen his strong promotion of "birth control" in 3rd world countries and speaking about "overpopulation". While I would remove the emotional implications of a Bond villain (thinking about CS Lewis speaking of using emotive terms), I think it not incredible that the lust for power we pray for delivery from in St Ephraim's prayer should strike a man of enormous wealth. And from everything he himself has said in interviews, I find real concerns about his influence and aims to be credible.

All talk of "conspiracy theory" as a thing to merely be ridiculed is foolish. The question is whether the claim of conspiracy is true or false. It requires no intellect to assume that it is false and ignore any claims. Certainly there are insane or outlandish claims of conspiracy, such as that the moon landings were all faked, but conspiracy is a very real human evil. Dp men of wealth and power ever conspire to increase it at the expense of others? I'm afraid so. That's the nature of sin. So appealing to ridicule to immediately discard any claim of conspiracy is stupidity pretending to be thoughtful. Any claim should be considered on its merits.

Anyone who gets the vaccine right now is just volunteering to be a test subject. Normally, a new drug like this would take years to be tested and approved. We seriously have no idea what long-term side affects might occur.

Robber Barons always muck around with things, and they can be good or bad. Rockefeller Sr established most of the modern medicine schools, Carnegie established a lot of NGOs which mutated into soft-power in geopolitics, Gates and Zuckerberg have both failed miserably and actually negatively impacted education - Gates more so.

I'm not a teacher, but the Common Core stuff they give kids seems designed to actually make otherwise bright children stupid.

Common Core is a failure. It is an attempt to undo the damage done by media on the brain. It's intent, as I have observed, is to teach problem solving skills (cognitive). This ignores that problem solving is not really a learned skill but rather an adaptation through experience. Although most of my exposure has been in math. (I'm a public school teacher)

Whoever decided that Common Core was a good idea needs to be hogtied, dragged into the streets, and put in stocks in the public square

isn't common core only English & Math
so far, state tests are only for those 2 subjects which they track yr to yr

teachers say kids working a yr ahead of what it used to be!
so first graders learn what second grade used to be
we teach our child EVERY summer just so she won't get behind after school starts...it's really made a difference

No. I saw the NY list of "recommended literature" in common core, which my SIL is an engineer of. She unfriended me for my criticism of public education, even though I praised the many hard-working people in the system.
