New Agey mumbo jumbo. Apart from being unbearably hokey, simplistic and downright campy, it also dares to misuse the reputation of prominent historical persons to gain illusory weight and substance.

Pathetically enough, in the end it's just Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) in a sensationalist package.

I found the Secret to be kind of shallow and all it appeals to is materialism (like we don't all have enough stuff already! lol)

The Moses Code by James Twyman is much better! He talks about the name of God and how we can use it for more important things, like love and peace.

It is using God's power in an 'illegal' way. It says if you desire something you ask the Universe for it. A Christian would ask God for it. Then it says to believe you already have received it (much the same as a Christian would do). Then you thank the Universe for it even though you don't have it yet but you believe it will be given to you. Exactly how we would pray and give praise and have faith. Only this way of doing it is unredeemed and 'illegal'...I don't know how to make it any clearer...=/...

asianangel points to a very important connection - perhaps unknowingly:

What he describes here is basically what's been taught by the New Thought Movement, starting in the late 19th century and persisting to this day. She spotted the parallels between its Christian inception and the more general, "new age-y" variety.

Why thank you for your perceptiveness :D

What do you think about this book? Personally, I haven't read it as of yet. I watched this clip on youtube and have mixed feelings. Watch it and let me know what you think.

I remember the whole "The Secret" thing - I had a copy of it before I became a Christian (I don't have it any more because I fed it to my shredder). It's interesting in theory but starts to fall down all over the place when presented with more thorny problems. A lot of it comes down to the theory of choosing what we get based on what we think about, which up to a point has some truth in it but sounds more absurd when trying to claim that the 6-year-old girl who was abducted, gang-raped and murdered only has herself to blame for choosing about such a fate.

On a purely practical note it might be fair to say that the survivors of an ordeal have a choice how they deal with it, but to say that they somehow chose the ordeal in the first place just doesn't make sense.

As others have already said it puts "the Universe" in the place of God, and flies directly in the face of what Job had to say... "The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD".

Bottom line, it's New Age-style nonsense.
