It is moronic to say.... "All cars must be EV's by 2035.... not just moronic but catastrophic to the economy and society.

I don't think anyone has actually proposed legislation that forbids ICE cars on road by any certain date.
If you mean the recent EU decision to ban sale of ICE cars by 2035 that is basically just a statement of intent and of course it only says sales and not use.

There is really no need to actually enforce it. Soon enough the alternatives are just going to be that much better, nobody apart from some niche companies making custom products will actually build ICE vehicles for personal transport segment at least.

Imagine what EVs will be after another 15 years of development. What the battery tech will be. How the power generation has improved. Who in their right mind will buy ICE car in 2035 ?

It also makes far more sense for countries that have to import oil (which is most of them) to favor electric based transport solutions since it is far easier and cheaper to generate electricity than it is to import that oil.

It seems like every time something plausible that could be done to reasonably sustain the American economy for some supposed “green” transition is thwarted by the alleged “green” interests.

Where I live in Pennsylvania, a liquified natural gas facility project that could help absorb skyrocketed auto fuel costs was ruined.

Plus we can get lithium from shale wastewater but the “green” interests are against drilling for natural gas in all aspects.

Much of this will default to China’s favor I think & probably most of the “green” interests are front groups for China or useful dupes.

Idaho National Laboratory Builds Full-Scale Prototype for Microreactor Project

This is what is on the horizon. This nuclear power plant will be active in 2023. This fits in a typical metal commercial building with ease. These plants can easily replace major fossil fuel power plants. Studies are also ongoing to make these plants radiation refuse free.

At the same time, a new company has designed a generation power plant for a car, the size of a shoe box. Again, nuclear power. This will require one car battery for start up and will never have to be charged overnight. Simple start like a modern car and the reaction takes care of uninterruptible power. No restricted 300 mile radius. If successful, every electric car battery will be eliminated before they get a firm footing in the industry. The Chevy Volt will become a museum piece before it's time.

Keep in mind that these start ups are a 50/50 crapshoot. The Micro turbine seemed so successful that McDonald's was on target to have a natural gas power plant on site at each location ...... before the micro turbine's experienced bearing failures on a product that spun faster than aircraft engines.

We'll see what stage these new ventures experience by the start of 2023.
