What's your take on the book of Job?
one of my fav Job verses
38:3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

my niece likes the part about unicorns :)
39:9Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

I prefer the part about dinosaurs ^_^
40:15Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

but all an all it seem Job had His act together He Knew God is faithfull and He ends up refined in the end and more blessed than when He started

I am not a theologian either, but I don't find the idea that "the Lord called him home" so un-Orthodox. It doesn't have to mean that the Lord gave him illness (this is an absurd notion of course). However, respecting fallen mankind's choice, God factually does allow illness and death-in-the-Hope-of-Resurrection & He will keep allowing them until His Second and Glorious Coming. As Christians, we do tend to believe that He has His plan for our salvation in which we ought to trust, and that plan includes the time of our departure. In a way, in His Wisdom God works out our salvation, even through the consequences of our own disobedience.

Of course, the best source of Theology for us common Orthodox Christians is the prayers of our Church. Here's the funeral service:

Blessed is the way wherein you walk today, for there is prepared for you a place of rest.

I cannot count how many times unbelievers stated, "God did this." It occurred to me on many occasions (before I was acquainted with Orthodoxy) that God certainly did not drive the truck recklessly, did not operate that car while drunk, did not ride erratically on that motorcycle, and negligently killed someone. It was a human being that did all of those things. Instead of blaming the human, they chose to blame God, instead.

That is what mankind has been doing since the fall of Adam. Remember, "The women YOU gave me." ...
