"1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober." 1 Th. 5:1-6
The topic of the end of the world (or age, more appropriately) as been around for thousands of years. It is not for us to say with iron-clad certainty the times and seasons and exact dates, which God has put in His power, but as we are commanded to watch and be sober, we can certainly speculate.
Let us therefore examine the Scriptures to look for clues as to when this time might be.
" 32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Matt. 25:32-33
The fig tree is Israel. Remember when Jesus Christ cursed the fig tree, and it withered away? The fig tree is symbolic of Israel. Jesus Christ is telling us to learn a parable of the fig tree - so it clearly must be important.
The fig tree put forth her leaves in 1948 when Israel became a state. Israel becoming a state again is the sign that the rest of the world did not have when they were predicting the end back in 1000 A.D. and such.
So we know that all these things are NIGH, but we still don't know when precisely they are. Perhaps we are not meant to know, but once again, we can speculate. We can be wrong, certainly - that's why we must always keep an open mind.
There is one and only one psalm written by Moses - Psalm 90. I believe and suggest that this psalm is written about the Israel of the latter times - once again, I may be wrong. Take a look:
"12So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. 13Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants." Ps. 90:12-13
Moses is speaking for Israel here. They are asking God HOW LONG until he returns? HOW LONG until he relents (the NIV translation says relent). Note that they are asking to be able to number their days.
" 16Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. 17And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it." Ps. 90:16-17
Establishing the work of their hands is quite possibly Jesus Christ reigning out of Jerusalem as it prophesies both in the Old and New Testament. But this is not the most interesting part of the psalm - the most interesting part is - well, take a look:
"10The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." Ps. 90:10
This sounds like a very latter-day Israel to me. Why else would they be CUT OFF, and FLY AWAY? Notice that Moses says that their days are either 70 or 80 years. This means that most probably their days are 80 years. If we add 80 to 1948, we come up with 2028. Now, if we add in a 3.5 year tribulation to that, we come up with about 2031 or 32.
2031 or 32 should sound familiar to most, because ABOUT TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO EXACTLY, Christ ascended into heaven. Could it be that exactly TWO THOUSAND YEARS after He left, He will return? Does scripture support this? I believe it does - but then again I may be wrong - take a look:
"1Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight." Hos. 6:2
Note that the third day would be Christ's 1000 year reign from Jerusalem. Now, AFTER TWO DAYS he will revive us. Remember that after Christ's resurrection, it is the "age of the Gentiles". I suggest that these "two days" are TWO THOUSAND years - and the third day would be Christ's return to reign for another THOUSAND years. Look:
"4For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." Ps. 90:4
"8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2 Pet. 3:8
Peter says this when talking about the end of the age.
I also wish to point out something extremely interesting in the gospels which perhaps has gone unnoticed. Remember that after TWO DAYS God revives Israel - remember that a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. Take a look:
"40So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days." John 4:40
Everyone knows the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. The samaritans represent the Gentiles - remember that the Jews and Samaritans were hostile towards one another. Christ abides with the Samaritans (Gentiles) TWO DAYS - and then look what he does:
" 43Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee." John 4:43
He goes back to the Jews after spending two days with the Samaritans. Possibly telling us of the verse in Hosea - quite possibly not. It is interesting, however.
Another example is Lazarus.
"6When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was." John 11:6
Lazarus was sick - Christ waits TWO DAYS (two thousand years?) before setting out to raise him from the dead. Once again, possibly it is symbolic - possibly not. But we must keep an open mind.
So, how do we weave all this together? Israel was born in 1948 - the fig tree put forth her leaves. If we accept in Psalm 90 that Moses is talking about the latter-day Israel (which I firmly believe that he is, read it carefully and you will see) then we have 80 years for which Israel to live (all of which are "trouble and sorrow" just as the psalm states). That puts us at 2028. After that "soon" they are "cut off" and "fly away".
This "soon" might be 3.5 years. That would leave us at 2031 or 2032 for Christ's return, precisely 2000 years after His resurrection.
One more thing I'd like to point out:
"34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled." Matt. 24:34
The two verses before this (32-33) are talking about the FIG TREE, which is ISRAEL. This is one of the most misquoted verses in the ENTIRE Bible. Many think that the Bible is false because of this verse, because the generation of Jews on the planet at that time has long since passed away.
But what if Christ is talking about the GENERATION BORN IN 1948?? The generation born when the fig tree puts forth her leaves? If this is the case, that generation would not have passed by 2031 or 32 - they would still be alive, albeit old.
I could be wrong. Like I said at first, the times and the seasons are in God's power - I have merely endeavoured to look in the Bible for some clues. The end might be before that - but I can hardly conceive it being any further away than that.
