I applaud Robert Duvall for this film. No one else has ever made a film even remotely like this, at least as far as big Hollywood productions go.

Apparently there were some conversions among crewmembers on the set during the filming and production. I think it was during the scene where Billy Bob Thornton tries to confront the preacher and wants to destroy the church.

I heard the above on Conan O'Brien actually. Sadly, Conan's response was something like, "Well, I'm sure their experiences were serious ones." He didn't even understand. All he could do was make a joke. Sadly, I think a lot of people who have only been exposed to Catholic churches might have felt the same way. (Just an observation, please. I respect the Roman Catholic denomination.)
