The American Press is given a Civics Lesson

Nowadays, most democracies fail not because of violence or coup d'etat, but because a legitimate elected leader comes to power and then begins to dismantle institutions. He puts a loyalist in the -- in the jobs instead of experts. He politicizes institutions that are supposed to belong to the whole nation, like the military or the Department of Justice, and makes them serve him and his political program.

Sound familiar?

Yes it does and I am looking at the Joe Biden administration as a prime example of that.

Just to point out that while they are cutting positions, I don't know how big of an impact that will have on the budget. 75% of our budget is medicare/medicaid, social security, and defense. All the cut's so far have been to the remaining 25%.

If these programs have no significant impact, Musk's cuts are beneficial. Even a 1% annual budget saving by the federal government amounts to nearly $40 billion.

If these cuts impact regular Americans, then the United States can decide in the next election whether to continue without the Department of Education or the EPA. The point is, there has been a debate for the last 50 years without seeing the actual impact. This time, thanks to President Trump, it will be possible to evaluate the real effects of these changes.
