Very interesting story about a painting of Jesus by Rembrandt that, in a sense, experienced “crucifixion”, “burial”, and “resurrection”. The painting is being exhibited at The Hyde Historic House & Art Museum in Glens Falls, New York, which is where I saw it. The short version of the story is that the painting was stolen from a museum in Russia in 1927. The center of the painting, showing the face of Jesus, was cut out and stolen and the rest of the painting (which was left in the museum) was violently torn up. Amazingly, the center of the painting was discovered four years later, buried in a tin can and in good shape. The painting was eventually restored and sold to the Hyde family from New York. Another interesting thing is that the painting was stolen during the Easter season.
