Yoga too, I’d never heard of people complaining about either yoga or tai chi until a few years ago. I don’t understand this at all as I’ve been doing yoga on and off since I was a teen and I’m in my 60s now . It’s good for you

thanks.

tai chi is based in eastern religious beliefs buddhism I think? so that's why I ask.

yoga comes out of a religious belief as well, that's probably why people are cautious.

I dunno just wondering if it is possible to do tai chi purely as a physical exercise without all the chi stuff.

I see no problem with practicing Tai Chi or any exercise. There is no need to incorporate a "spiritual" element into them. I like Liangong it is easier than Tai Chi and I find it extremely beneficial. Go for it, your body with thank you!

I think so, yes. I learned tai chi for relaxation when I was 12 and yoga when I was 18 and found them both helpful and enjoyable. I didn't consider myself a Christian (or any particular religion) at that time, but in neither case did the teachers bring any religious teachings (Buddhist, Hindu, New Age or otherwise) into the classes; it was just movements and stretches that were fun to do and challenged one's abilities without being competitive or strenuous.

I was aware of the belief systems in which those exercises originated, but I wasn't ever attracted to those teachings or interested in pursuing them. However, my yoga teacher was interested in Christianity (albeit mixed in with other teachings) and it was her influence that eventually led me to look more deeply into Christianity myself and to become fully committed to following Jesus, so I owe something to that yoga class!! :) God moves in a mysterious way, as they say.
