I recently got stranded on a sheet of ice on a back-road this winter, it was getting dark and the temperature was forecast to get down to 7 degrees F, I was able to go to a nearby farmhouse for help and after about 2 hours I got free and made it back to my apartment. After this happened I resolved to stock up on survival gear and throw it in the trunk of my car so it would never happen again. I picked up a survival kit for $35, also some emergency food rations, a folding survival shovel, a solar battery bank to charge my cell, a plasma lighter to start a fire, and I also have a battery powered heated vest that can keep me warm in the freezing cold.
