Under the forum rules, we're not allowed to debate the morality of homosexuality, just it's political & cultural influence. So the assumption behind this post is, homosexual actions are inherently wrong, but the people who commit them are still (like us) sinners in need of redemption, sinners who are loved by God & should be loved by us, too.

With that in mind, "Pride Month" has begun, and my Facebook feed is filling up once again with posts about homosexuality--either posts about love & acceptance of these people & their actions, or posts that speak out against these actions, with little regard for the inherent dignity of the people who commit them.

What I want for this thread is things from a truly Christian, "hate the sin, love the sinner" perspective, things I can share on my wall that call out homosexuals as people who should be loved & accepted, while acknowledging that some actions are right & others are wrong.

The challenge is, I want things formatted well for social media, visually appealing with just a couple sentences. I'm attaching an example here of the pro-LGBT posts I see; I want something that matches the love & acceptance (and visual appeal) that it has, but with the Christian perspective, so it can't be confused with supporting the homosexual actions, too.

My contribution is a link to Courage International, a ministry dedicated to accepting the LGBT community, without seeing their actions as "good". Website links aren't the best for social media, but perhaps someone here will appreciate it.

Remembering that Pride Month grew out of Stonewall, could you craft a meme that says that you're a conservative Christian but you stand against anti-gay violence? That could be a positive message to communicate.

I don't have the skill of turning ideas into pithy memes, though, so that part would have to be up to you. :)

How's this? It's a public domain image, just to honor Romans 13.

For my caption when posting, I want to say something like, "I will not celebrate Pride Month, but that doesn't equal hate. To accept every person, without accepting every ideology, is letting compassion & moral truth live in harmony. ✝️"

Please share your feedback, as supportive or critical as you see fit. Thanks!Lumii_20240602_194111359.jpg

How's this?

Btw, I thought John 8:11 was an excellent addition, balancing love of the person with recognition of sin:

“...neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

How about: "I do not celebrate Pride with you, but I will protect your humanity."

I'm undecided about the Bible verse. John 8:7, a little earlier in the same story ("Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her"), is a possible alternative. I do like that you've chosen a Bible story where Jesus protects a person from being killed by a mob.

we are getting used to horrible stuff, you know Jesus said that if you make one of these 'little ones' sin or fall, i think it was after ministering children, you would better throw yourself to the sea with a boulder in your neck? they are brainwashing kids into that stuff almost all of society is guilty. Media, teachers, parents, normal citizen for shutting up.

Jesus gets 1 day a year. Veterans get 1 day a year. Our independence gets 1 day a year. Founding fathers get 1 day a year but gays get a whole month?

But these people?

I will never recognize them or celebrate them.

Btw, the app I'm using is called Lumii, and I just discovered a rainbow font that works in well here.

I like this latest version. I think it's a respectful and positive message.

Why does everything always have to be laced with a call to repentance? ... I'm thinking that, like many or most straight people who tend to rack up a high sexual body count in life these days, LGBTQ+ folks likewise have already heard this and heard that a bajillion times. They already know.

Maybe Christians could be more invitational in their relational measures rather than confrontational in their semantics?

As for memes, ... I'm sorry. I don't have one for you. If I were to try one that's catchy, I'd meander about with inherent meaning and philosophy and say something like:

"Real Rainbows can't be flagged." ...Or something along those lines. Then, you'd catch folk's attention because they'd ask, "What does THAT mean?"

Is not the whole Christian life a call to repentance?

Regarding LGBT, and my own Facebook feed in particular, my friends who post about LGBT are either, "Accept them & encourage them to do everything they want to do", or "Reject what they do, and if you reject the people in the process, so be it--God laughs at the wicked, so we should, too". (One of my friends actually said that to justify being a jerk in an abortion discussion)

What I'm trying to do, with the call to acceptance & repentance, is to bridge the two extremes that my friends share, taking the best of both worlds.

Are homosexuality being game hunted or something that violence against them is especially noteworthy? Why do we need to signal this? Just ignore pride month and anything to do with LGBT. They aren't worth acknowledgement.

If the message is "we disapprove of gay people", then I agree that proclaiming this message is unnecessary. As you say, they already know.

When I imagine a positive message that a conservative might send, one message might be something like: "Gay couples are not allowed to be members of my church. However, in this month when we remember Stonewall, we grieve the arrests and imprisonment and violence against gay people that have happened in our history and that continue to happen in some places. I will do what I can to ensure that gay people can live their lives in peace and safety." That's what I was aiming for in the conversation above. It's hard to squish this down into a meme, though.

Why is it our duty to protect the LGBT? They have the governments of various countries protecting them. Why even engage when that's exactly what they want? Focus on yourself, your Christian community.
