Is sleeping with animals a sin?

I used to have cat years ago and I let him sleep and eat, next to me in my bed. It mostly stayed in the house. When it wasn’t, I made sure the cat was washed before I had it next to me in bed when I watching TV/reading a book.

My cat & I slept in the bed together many times. NO sex in any way period. Now I read this scripture in the in the KJV.

Exodus Chapter 22

19. Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

Lieth from my understanding mainly means sex in the bible. But could it also mean don’t lay next to it period because it will bring a confusion? Their have been cases where people have had sex/raped animals. It could be happening more frequent than most people know.

Animals can’t call the police for assault. I’m sure most of the confusion started with people who committed bestiality, is by sleeping next to an animal. So by that scripture, should we keep all animals out of our bed? No matter the age or circumstances?

This is one of the problems with the King James nowadays in that the language so commonly used when it was written no longer means the same things. Also i know Hebrew and the word commonly used in the Bible for sex translate literally as "to lie with"

"Such as: And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me."Genesis 39:6-8 You'll find that wording all over the King James. So brother I don't think you have anything to worry about as i feel quite confident lieth means sex in this case.

Right.

David. You should try different translations before you jump to conclusions.

Or just use a concordance, Bible dictionary, commentary or any of the numerous resources available to better understand Scripture. I would hardly blame the Bible in this instance for the misunderstanding.

My little dog sleeps in our bed every night....he's cute and cuddly and it has nothing to do with SEX. They say dogs are pack animals and see us humans as the leaders of their "pack" and packs sleep and do everything together. When I had large dogs they wanted to sleep on the bed too....but it became a bit "squishy" :) And I'm not a cat person...I do have a snake, but he has his own house. :)

I don't think you should have animals in your bed just so that you won't be tempted that way.

I'm sorry to hear that you were convicted of anything. Stick with your beliefs based on scripture and in the end God will show us all the truth. Hey it may be what you have discerned it may be what others have discerned or it may be something that none of us could imagine at all. Who really knows for sure but God Himself?

Now about the temptation, my cats have been sleeping with me for years and I have yet to have any temptation of any kind except to pet them from time to time.

I had another thought: That verse may not only apply to sex but to sanitation as well.

Certain animals do have a habit of licking themselves and shedding fur. If my cat is lying on the bed, particles of its saliva and fur would naturally be in my bed.

What are your thoughts on that?

I think if you are tempted....that way....you're a pretty sick puppy yourself and maybe need some therapy....!!!!!

Yeah it is pretty sick for sure. Why did God need to provide a written law against it? I can only guess that it was/is prevalent among certain individuals in certain areas. Still I find it to be just plain weird.
