you know the source if you have any familiarity with the scripture
it is the principles in the text which as all the OT are written for our admonishment and instruction .
these same warning stand today .

a close friend who has not had much to do with the church system and who was saved out of much new ageism ,was recently invited to a prophetic ministry evening by a typical Charismatic church . where a "prophetic speaker would be teaching " and after they would be "sharing prophetic words .

she was not sure about it .
that night the lord gave her a dream and gave her the above chapter .. (it is of course Jeremiah 23 9-40)
in her dream they held hands in a circle .

she didnt know what it meant but she prayed lord if thee are all false prophets then at their meeting let that happen that they stand like in the dream in a circle and hold hands .

she went to the meeting and it happened exactly as in the dream ..
she tried to leave the meeting and was strongly coerced to stay .. but in the end by persistence she got to leave .knowing everything about the meeting had been declared by the lord JESUS as FALSE .

yes these words are 100% relevant for today .
the churched have been filed with new ageism practices philosophies and FALSE PROPHETS .
The Biblical description of a false prophet is one who points people away from God to idols and who reinforces sinful sexual conduct as being acceptable. In all the prophetic meetings I have been to, I have never heard any prophecies like that. All the prophecies I have heard are those that seek to strengthen folks' faith and dependence on Christ. False prophecy does not point people to Christ and encourage them to have a stronger faith in Him.

The New Age movement seeks to encourage people's faith in themselves and teaches that the answers to life, the universe and everything are in personal self-improvement. Any prophecy that encourages self-improvement is New Age. It is humanistic, in that man is his own god and that the world will get better as mankind is more enlightened.

It is dangerous to accuse those who move in the spiritual gifts of being New Age. There is a danger of blaspheming the Holy Spirit if someone manifests Holy Spirit prophecy and is accused of coming from a New Age spirit (in other words, of the devil).

.. do not forget the ones(prophets ) that prophecy that all is well and no evil will befall you ...which is the most common new age prophecy we hear . that revival is coming -that its coming through "your particular nation" without mention of sin or the need of repentance without warning of the terrible sin of unrepentance

What particular groups are giving prophecies like that?

the warning came by way of a dream to that person . the group was a group meeting near one tree hill and similar to so many of these type of meetings .. the dream was then given confirmation .
for some reason people flock to prophetic claims .. i put it down to spiritual laziness and wanting to hear good and wonderful things about themselves .but not wanting to deal with the real issue of sin in their lives .
the greatest false doctrine out their in ALL congregations is the teaching or attitude that one "cannot be free from the works of sin " allowing for the continuance of known sin . this leads to ever increasing deceptions and the increase and perpetuation of that deception. entire congregations are now being taken down this path .
interestingly the highest concentration of people practicing false prophecy are female .

read Jeremiah 23 9 -40 again -you'll note a theme of false prophets that it is of baal ... which basically means "another spirit(god) "
we are warned to NOT believe every spirit but to test the spirits .

so IN a directional change of this thread TOPIC

lets look at "testing the spirits whteher they are of God "

instread of to and fro of whose right ..
lets be more constructive and look at HOW we are to test the spirits .

for me the number one thing is
does any form of the prophetic lead the body in direction which deviates away from hard obedience to Christ Jesus and death to self
answer - NO .
does the prophetic validate the prophetic ? -answer NO .
is the prophetic validated by dreams visions and claims of the angelic ? -answer :NO
is the prophetic a "leadership in the body to be looked up to and obeyed "- answer: NO

does the spirit of prophecy ever direct to or glorify the Holy Spirit - answer : NO

Are the prophecies being given from people who live a holy life and are active in obedience to the gospel, or are they from people who simply attend a lot of meetings and speak a lot at those meetings but they themselves never "DO" the work of the gospel . -this is a very great tell .

there are so many things we can and should Question .
over the last 2 decades the question is begged -why has the prophetic movement not led the bulk of believers into increasing of dying to self and going out into the world to DO the gospel
instead -and in honesty we CAN observe -it has only lead more and more people to seek being "the prophet" rather then doing the work of the Gospel .it has not played any part in equipping people to the work of the Gospel .
