.

When I saw it was a wheatback, I thought about that. So I was a bit surprised to see it was so close. Judging by it's condition I'd say technically it's worth about $2.75.

A 1943 copper cent would be worth over $10,000. Officially they were all zinc coated steel but there were some 1942 copper blanks left in the press so there are a few out there. It's cousin would be the 1944 zinc plated steel cent, but they are not worth as much.

Even if the outcome is good?

Happy accidents are just that, accidental goods. Hoping that accidental goods obtain or depending on them is no way to pursue the interests of the US or its citizens. We'll see how all these new orders play out, but Trump's impulsiveness coupled with unwavering support for everything he decides is not good for us.

It's all fiat currency anyway, why don't they just make it all out of the cheapest materials they can find?....
They should make coins out of plastic. Like the straws.

I recall there was a plan to make currency out of radioactive waste, to encourage people to spend it rather than hoard it.

Simple solution to a very trivial problem like this:
1. Issue new dollars which will be worth ten of your old dollars.
2. Issue new pennies which will be worth ten of your old pennies.

Costs dramatically fall, the penny is finally worth something, the folks in TN keep their jobs! :)
A currency revaluation to save a few manufacturing jobs is a bit excessive. It would also be something outside the power of the president to change, much like minting coinage which is a power given to congress, or was prior to the “yeah what ya gonna do about it” philosophy took over.

Honestly, I don't think this is inherently a bad idea. The thing I do have a problem with though is that the Constitution specifically gives the power to mint coins to Congress. The President can't unilaterally make this decision.

So how can people pay with change that requires pennies? Will cash become a thing of the past? Odd
If it cost more to make something than it is worth then there is no reason to keep making it.

The question is also one of utility. Pennies now are primarily used to give change, but seldom spent. Nickels are used more, though they also cost more to produce then they are worth. It's less of a discrepancy in relative terms, but much higher in absolute terms. I think it would make sense to both get rid of the penny and reformulate the nickel to be less valuable. Dimes and quarters are still cheaper to produce than their face value so they are fine.

Yet no ban on corn ethanol production or its required inclusion in gasoline…

My E85 is 40 cents a gallon cheaper than 87 octane gas. God bless home grown fuel.

But having a man who said “We finally beat Medicaid“ during a presidential debate and being gaslighted about his mental Acuity was better for the country?
