Hi,

I'd love to read some information on rosary beads that change colour and what it means. I discovered this morning that my Mary was changing colour, not the entire rosary beads, just the Mary.

Thanks.

Michelle

What do you mean, by the Mary...the center piece? I have heard of rosaries turning from silver to gold...which can mean anything, from an answered prayer to the silver plating wearing off.

Do you know if you rosary is sterling silver or just plated?

Usually, if it is the plating wearing off the chain is the first to go...not the cross and center piece...unless you hold the center piece alot during prayer.

If the chain, findings, center and crucifix are real silver, maybe you have a miracle...that would be cool!

Peace be with you...Pam

You can take it to a jeweler, maybe you can ask...your priest if there is one in the parish. That is what a lady in our parish did....her's was sterling silver, and it turn and tested gold.

Wow thats pretty amazing! I think mine is changing through wear not to gold.

That is what mine did...the chain is silver plate, and has wore off...and the base metal shows..lol..but on my center and crucifix...the design has worn smooth on some of the high spots but it is still silver.

I am learning how to make rosaries, and one of the most expense parts is the chain...so my rosary maker...use sterling silver for the center, findings and crucifix...but used a cheaper silver plated base metal chain...probably to save money.

But I do find it odd...that your center is turning first, because it is usually the chain... it gets handled more, during the prayers. Do you handle your center, alot during the rosary...or store it in someway, where the center might get more wear.

Anyhoo...keep us posted. My friend's turned slowly over time...not over night.

Peace be with you...Pam

I didn't think that I handled the centre more than the crucifix...but I could be. I'll wash it and see what happens.

Usually (not always, but usually) what you have are various metals (silver, pewter, even aluminum) which slowly change color due to exposure to the oils in your skin, exposure to various other things (the changes in temperature from being in your pocket or purse, leather rosary cases, even the level of air pollution in your area), or just plain age. Metals corrode, and when they do, they usually get darker or duller.

Same thing for wood, plastic, stone, and beads made out of materials like pressure-compressed rose petals.

The two materials that seem to hold up the best with the smallest amount of change are gold and glass.
