Going by the English yes but he also states he that hateth his brother is a murderer and no murderer has eternal life abiding in them. And he also states love your enemies.
To hate your brother or an enemy is misdirection, for we are to instead hate the backwards ways of man within us all. We are all in the same boat, some more misdirected than others. Putting our will ahead of the will of God's will is what makes us backwards and leads to the selfishness that creates all the problems in the world.

That's been kind of my point in this entire thread but you have some that believe putting God's will over our own is considered a "work" when in fact that's a true sign of repentance.

Kind of like wanting it both ways.

Isn't renoucing the sins of your former life and taking up your cross that allows us to be washed clean in our waterbaptizm? If we have nothing to repent of, why is there a need for a savior? If all that is required is to say the words of an oath, why would our Lord Jesus Christ say:

John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:21 “Whoever has My commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves Me… .” John 14:23 “Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves Me, he will obey My teaching. ' ” Does Jesus accept lip service? If the Bible is infallible, how could it be in such disagreement of itself. Let's look at a few more Bible verses that indicate we must respond to our calling and not just make empty promises.

Romans 1:55 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.

John 15:141 You are my friends if you do what I command

How can faith have nothing to do with obedience?

"The terms repentance and confession are often confused. How are you defining "repentance"?"

Repentance is essential to real faith in Christ. Confession is an important part, but there may be confession without any repentance. Confession is acknowledging to another or others of what has been done, or would be done, and might be repented of. Confession of wrongdoing should be to God in any case. But it might be more general about our sinfulness rather than with thought of each sin through all of our lives. Repentance is with sincere earnest desire to turn from those things contrary to God's will. Such is shown through commandments given that are shown in the Bible. In Christ we are enabled so that we do turn from sins. There is a learning process, as few of us are ready to turn from everything contrary to God's will, it could be overwhelming and we do easily dismiss things as not really contrary to God, with any reasoning we can use for such, which is not hard to do like changing would be. So God will show things for change in good time for any of those things, knowing any time before that we are not as ready for such change.

Repentance is change, and that change is no longer self-justifying our will over that of God and calling it good so it may serve self. Repentance acts in servitude to all as needed, not to self-interest, the root of all evils. Imagine the change in the family pet if it were to one day gain the knowledge of good and evil.
