The first time I was 'slain in the Spirit' was a few months ago when a local pastor went to the Florida Revival and he 'caught the fire' from Todd Bentley. He came back and he shared about what God had been doing over there and then we prayed for revival in our area. After the service he invited anyone who wanted to receive the impartation to come forward and receive prayer. I was fairly nervous while I was waiting out the front. I'm very cautious about not hyping anything up to do with the Holy Spirit. Anyway, while I was standing there with my eyes closed reminding myself to becareful that I don't fall on my own accord or allow myself to be pushed or anything. At the same time I was trying to keep a completely open mind about allowing God to do whatever he wanted to me. Suddenly I felt the slightest touch on my forehead and then the next thing I remember was being on the floor. I was completely concious while I was on the floor, however all I felt like doing or could think about doing was speaking in tongues. I just started doing it loudly and the people around me were doing it too. I felt such a peace flowing through my body from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. It was such an awesome experience!!!
I've had other experiences, where the Holy Spirit has taken control over my body when people have been praying for me. Sometimes I will shake without realising (other people actually have to tell me I am doing it). Other times I have felt what feels like bolts of electricity going through my arms or hands but it's not annoying or painful or anything, it's such a beautiful experience.

Sorry if some of the things i've said aren't very clear, sometimes it's a bit hard to explain them. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have :)

That is so awesome!!!! Hallelujah!!!!

People play along, they know that a specific reaction is expected.

When the preacher blows on them or touches them and says the appropriate words, the person knows that a certain reaction is expected and they will in turn fall over, faint, convulse etc...

It is not fake, the subjects aren't defrauding anyone, as they likely genuinely believe the Holy Spirit is causing them to fall over or convulse. They consciously believe they have been affected by the Holy Spirit, but their subconscious is what is getting them to play along.

As far as Benny Hinn goes, I watched a fascinating documentary on him. The people he heals are carefully screened before hand and you will never see Benny Hinn heal someone with a visible and significant disorder or malady.

Put a German speaking Christian who has never heard of Benny Hinn, who has no idea he is a faith healer and who hasn`t a clue why he`s standing in front of Benny Hinn. I guarantee that when Benny Hinn pours the power of the Holy Spirit upon that person, he`ll just stare at Benny Hinn like he`s got three heads and wonder why Benny pushed his head and yelled at him.

It`s all role playing. Benny has his role, the people have their role and everybody takes part as is expected.

Think you've got it all figured out eh?

It doesn't always work like that.

It is true some people do fall over just because they are expected to, as you so point out Benny Hinn's audience.

I've heard of people who were not even born again and who heard a preacher on radio and got saved, and passed out on the spot, or started speaking in tongues, and didn't even know what it was that happened to them; had to call someone and ask what was going on because they had no clue.

Something like this: "Hey, I was watching/listening to your program for the first time, and I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior, and fell over. Don't know how long I was out, but when I woke up I was speaking some other language. Is this supposed to happen?"

In many cases, this is people who have never even heard of being "slain in the Spirit" or speaking in tongues.

I have witnessed legs grow out and crippled people healed in Jesus' name, in person, and even i think Benny Hinn is a fake.

In all of his crusades he has never caught one "infallible" miracle on tape.

There was one of his crusades a few years ago where he was praying for a bunch of deaf and mute people, and I happened to be watching. I prayed for them, why wouldn't I? I'm a christian. But I am always wary of Benny Hinn and the entire TBN and Word of Faith and prosperity crowd he hangs around with. At any rate, he prayed for them, and claimed they were healed, but what I saw on that video in no way resembled a Bible healing. Same goes for so many of the other "passing out" stunts he does.

It is my belief that he is nothing but a charlatan.

I gave Benny Hinn as a specific example only because everyone seems to know him and what he does. I completely agree with you though and I have seen the same thing. He is quite the liar. If he brings at least 1 person to God though, then he can keep doing it. But if he chases a single person away, God curse him.

I quite agree!

I've shaken before, but I've always been very aware of it and I've felt the electricity go through me before, but only once.

Ha, this whole thread is awesome... I've gotten "slain in the Spirit" in a couple dreams, but never while awake. I interpret those as "practice runs." :)

That's cool Daral...I've never heard of that before this. Get ready for the real thing then!

Actually I brought a friend to my church once who wasn't a christian and had never heard of people being 'slain in the Spirit'. After the service I encouraged them to go to the front and get prayer for their back. He went up there and a guy put his hand on him to pray for him and he was instantly 'slain in the Spirit' -not to mention healed. He didn't fake it, he had no idea what it even was!!

Do not let this become a debate. That's not the purpose of this thread. Although there are some fakers, sure, I disregard those. It is not important that some people lie to fit in and to become popular. It happens all the time in every occasion, but we need not let that tarnish what is holy and good.

Unfortunately, seeker, there are people out there making money and fame on the strength of others' faith. There are many, many people who have been healed, and been "slain in the Spirit" genuinely, but the loud, famous few who are fakes give the rest a bad name.

It may be that your faith does not need this sort of thing. God works in everyone differently.

No one can "pour out the Holy Spirit" on someone, except God Himself. Sometimes it can happen through others, but not by man's direction, and not when man says so. Please remain open minded. Remember, that if manifestations of the Holy Spirit didn't bother the enemy, he wouldn't be trying so hard to discredit it.

God Bless
