Hi all I am rather new to the board and I wanted to get some feedback on proper workout attire for Christians.

I personally enjoy working out and have been doing it for years, but latelty have been very cautious about what I wear outside or in the Gym. I definetly enjoy the way a look but I don't want to come across as being vain or provacative in my apparell. What kinds of clothing FOR MEN in your opinion is crossing the line as far as being prideful or Immodest.

Honest Replies only

I go to my gym in a cami sport top and either shorts or mesh pants. (Cami top= tank tp made for exercising) I have my shoulders and part of my upper back bared, but I'm comfortable and I also have yet to be chased by lustful hordes (Although the personal training keeps offering discounts on his services *shudder*).

T, sleeveless T or a tank top... I never really thought about how much of my upper body was showing as it relates to Christian modesty. I have gone shirtless outside when it's real hot out, jogging or skating or whatever to stay cool. I don't have anything to flaunt, either; though maybe intent isn't important here. Good question! By the way, I DO also wear shorts, just not too tight and not too baggy.

Well i guess i must be the unmodest one of the group...but for those that know me that is no surprise....
In the winter i wear a pair of underarmour coldgear running tights..they work great but the only difference from the tights and paint is that paint is wet. not much left to the imagination...in the summer i wear a pair of good ole shorts and a tanktop or muscle tee.

I will go bike riding with the tights on and have never even seen a horde..but i don't go to a gym...I don't know if I would wear them there???? I am into comfort but still wouldn't want to be teased by the big weight lifters with their leapord skins pants.

mesh pants...now thats thought provoking ;)

It is interesting to get comments from others on this topic because dress is not something that is really discussed in the church. The main reason why I'm asking is that I use to run shirtless outside and from time to time would get lustful stares from other women or would get someone trying to make a pass at me. At the time I didn't think to much of it and actually use to enjoy the attention

Latetly have seriously reconsidered what I wear to the gym or outside .

I do appreciate the responses.

Good Feedback

I personally feel that workout clothes are about the actual workout. That means they should be comfortable and practical during excersise. If it is 90° during your summer run and you feel cooler without a shirt on then I see no problem with that. What's the difference between that and swimming at the beach with a bathing suit on? If women/men are having lustful thoughts while you're working out, it's something they have to work on.

whilst i agree it would be something for them to work on.. i don;t beleive that divulges us of _all_ responsibility. if the way we dress does cause someone to lust (a.k.a. sin) then we should try to avoid bein the cause of it.

there's a pertinent verse here somewhere.

now you'll excuse my whilst i go visualise mesh pants.

The only thing that bothers me as far as men's workout apparel goes are the really little short shorts that joggers wear. I'm probably not fond of them because usually the joggers I see have bird legs :sorry:

Anyway........when I work out it's usually a sports bra and a pair of baggy shorts. It's what's the most comfortable for my workouts. If I'm bike riding I'll wear spandex instead of the shorts.

You keep those lustful thoughts to yourself, buster!

I didn't mean mesh, like big holes, nothing to the imagination, lingerie bag sort of mesh. I meant a layer of mesh with a light weight, breathable lining.

My gym basically just requires that what you wear be respectful of yourself and respectful of the others around you and their sensibilities. There's not really ever an issue that I've seen with that idea anyways.

I personally wear shorts and either a muscle shirt with an Underarmour muscle shirt under it or some other t-shirt I pull outta my closet as I head to the gym. Nothing well thought out or planned out for any specific reason.

Those aspects are in the eye of the beholder. Your fear is anothers opinion which from person to person is a broad spectrum and in the grand scheme of things matters not. Wear what is conducive for your workout and is most comfortable for you.
