It would help to have more information, but in general the mainline bodies tend to be more progressive. The Episcopal Church (TEC), the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the United Church of Christ (UCC), etc. Texas overall is a conservative state, so you may want to make a list of options, try to read up on them, & go from there. Again, it would help to have more info, then the options could be narrowed more.

I am seeking to attend a progressive or liberal church near Austin, TX. I currently live in Round Rock, and need to find a place I to attend. Thanks.

"progressive or liberal" leaves us with some uncertainty. Some would say that the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian Universalist Assn., and the Metropolitan Community Church are examples of real progressive churches, but others would add the Episcopal, Presbyterian (USA), Disciples of Christ, and some others normally considered mainline denominations but not thought of by everyone as all that liberal. The word progressive has come to mean, to many people, a version of Christianity that denies miracles. Is this the kind of church you had in mind or one that is merely active on behalf of politically liberal causes?

I am truly uninterested in a Churches political opinions, as I see them to be a separate matter. My inquiring of a liberal church or progressive Church would be one that moves away from conservative Christianity or Fundamentalism. I wouldn't go as far to say that I want one that denies miracles, but rather, one that is open-minded to interpretation and not set-in-stone to what one Pastor/Priest/Preacher/Theologian says.

By conservative Christianity, I mean I was raised in a Independent Baptist church in California near John MacArthur's church, where most of the people sort-of idolized the man. These are the people I'd prefer to avoid.

Thanks, Faceofbear, for the followup. It sounds, from what you said there, that almost any mainline Protestant church body would be moving in that direction--United Methodist, PresbyterianUSA, Episcopal, United Church of Christ, Evangelical Lutheran, even American Baptist. None of these is at all fundamentalistic, unless you were to run into a local congregation that is out of step with the national church's reputation.

Austin (Travis County) is the most liberal county/city in Texas. It probably ha a lot to do with the University of Texas and the East 6th street clientele. I am sure, if you meet of with some of those folks, they can help you. Remember Madelyn O'Hare was from there.
