It probably jumps the gun to say that Laodicean lukewarmness is related...although Montesquieu did make a similar point...
I do not think it does jump the gun. You might have made an astute observation! When facing trials we cling to the Lord while others blame God. Thus making one hot or cold.

If good weather for me meant bad weather for someone else, then I probably wouldn't pray for that. However, good weather is not zero-sum. The whole world, hypothetically speaking, could be granted good weather.

This line is part of every Liturgy that we celebrate, as part of the Great Litany toward the very beginning of the Liturgy: "For seasonable weather, abundance of the fruits of the earth, and peaceful times, let us pray to the Lord."

We would say that such a prayer is a good thing.

I think I started this thread wanting people to agree with me. :) Maybe I should reconsider my views. I am already even more grateful for the weather we have in this country.

just saw this thread

have thanked God for sunshine especially when it's been hiding for days and have also thanked God for rain

I check weather daily to know how child should dress for school, especially since they have recess if it's 20 degrees or warmer but don't think we've ever prayed for good weather

weather changes so much where we live; it just is what it is

if we'd known neighbor's trees would fall on our house, maybe we should have prayed for protection from winds?

with last tree damage, insurance paid $20,000 bill for all repairs, minus deductible (happy our agent signed us up for the better insurance plan)

Hi Christine. It was a good job you had that insurance!

The issue I had was we live in the UK and the weather is rarely severe. My friend wanted me to pray so she could sunbathe and get a good tan. So that people would sit out in their gardens etc. At the time I couldn't see any spiritual benefit of it and resented being told everyday to pray for sunshine, when I couldn't agree to it in good conscience.

I guess I was quite pernickity to be irked enough to make a thread about it. Also, to want people to agree with me, wasn't good either.

I was irked because I was trying to avoid judging and being loving. We had many conversations over the months preceeding it where I keep objecting to her views which made me feel like it was unloving to criticise it. Remaining silent was hard too.

I once witnessed rain on neighbor's yard but not ours
it's funny to see the rain line when standing outside

sometimes posts of mine get quoted while am still revising
deleted about trees cause both happened quite a while ago

husband says "let's just go" even if forecast says rain
i.e. taking child to fall activity and sure enough it didn't rain for a while and when it did start raining, we headed into barn for indoor activity
