Jas 5:16 ...The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.I don't see why we would.

Prayers for the dead is practiced in all of the ancient Apostolic Churches (Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Assyrian Church of the East). Those Churches ALL pray for the dead very frequently. Not sure what that verse has to do with anything regarding this topic.
thank you, Fatheryes, because we don’t know if in that last second they repented.
and God can take our prayers into account even after someone reposesI don't see why we would.

This is correct. Even John Wesley (founder of Methodism even though he was a lifelong Anglican priest) prayed for the dead.plus, if you know your history, St Paul does it in the NT.
and don’t forget Anglicans and traditional Lutherans.

If you pray for those outside the faith it might do some good.
based on any Bible, unless you think God is bound by time. and, by your own power you can’t cross over, but God can save anyone any way He chooses to.Can I ask what from the Bible that is based on? AFAIK, there is no crossing over after you are dead.
