Hi,
Recently a puppy has sort of elegantly dropped into our laps. Just days ago, there was no consideration at all about a puppy - but the circumstances and details have changed a lot, we weren't looking for it or anything, to make us at least consider it. (Actually, we're sold on it. If everything goes according to plan at the moment, we'll be picking it up on Friday. lol)
The people we're "buying" it from are some friends of ours willing to give it to us who have been around this type of dog and breeding it with well-tempered, etc. parents for ages - not sure about the guy, but his wife has been doing it at least 23 years, as long as they've been married. They're wolf-dog hybrids - this litter is 97% wolf and 3% Husky (but you never know exactly with the individual puppy's genes/DNA/whatever).
There's a lot of disinformation about wolves and wolf-hybrids, but we've done a lot of research and consulted them, other friends of ours who have wolf-dog hybrids from them, etc. and we've also prayed a lot.
Yesterday we went out to their house and looked at the litter, and before this we prayed continually for God to lead us to the right puppy or none at all if we weren't meant to get one. Well, from the moment we got there, one particular puppy came up to me and we started playing with it, but wanted to be fair and checked out the other puppies. For the most part, except for a few drinks of water/getting some food, it followed us and stayed near us for the whole 3 hours we were there. We also received the acceptance of the parents and one wolf-hybrid they've had that is SUPER protective and was the one we were told to "be careful of" getting between her/them, making fast movements, etc. (It's not like it was a real danger, because she is paralyzed in the back, but that's only made her even closer to them.)
Anyway, Friday we should be picking up this puppy and making the hopefully 15 or so year commitment. It's one of the bigger males of the litter (even though they don't name them, they called it "chunky monkey") and these hybrids are supposed to get to around 60-135 lbs. But we still have a business week to consider everything and pray, we can always change our minds and pick another puppy from another litter from another year from another decade etc. (they said the offer always stands, and there will be many more litters).
So please pray we've made the right decision or will realize we didn't before we pick it up, we'll be able to care for it very well, and that our cat and him will get along fine (the puppy and his parents and their parents and so on have grown up around like 10 cats - should be no problem from him, and we're hoping our cat will be accepting since he's only a puppy - and will make sure the puppy knows he's boss before he gets too big lol).
Thank you for your prayers.
