Ok, and old people who break their hips recover and die shortly after. My mom, at 92, seemed to get better from her dementia and her speech from strokes, and was able to communicate with us normally for a short time, and I thought the Lord had healed her then she was gone.
Again, my statement was based on that age was not mentioned in the OP...that was my point

It was in the title. He just went through double pneumonia. He rallied long enough to celebrate Easter. It’s not surprising he passed as he did. He never fully recovered.

And the statement below lacked compassion in my view, besides, looking at the Pope, he didn't look like a spring chicken.
So when a person recovers from an illness that is a sign they will die lol??

It’s pretty much common knowledge that people rally before death if it all possible to say what they want, etc. I know that I’ve seen it when I was working and volunteering at Nursing Homes. I saw Pope Francis yesterday and he looked positively ashen. While it always surprises when one passes, I’m not shocked. Prayers for the repose of his soul. :praying:

Lacked compassion? It was inaccurate and a silly statement as presented...that was my point.

I was replying to post #4... "When people are sick usually there’s signs that show they will die soon. One of those signs is recovery."

This latest leader of the Cathoic bishoprics, is a very interesting person.

He did not come from a European background.

He offended both "liberals" and "conservatives", with his direct approach
to how the People of God (and especially Church leaders) ought to
compell all sorts of people toward the lovingkindness of God.

22 The servant reported, ‘Sir, your orders have been carried out and still there is room.’ 23 The master then ordered the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedgerows and make people come in that my home may be filled. 24 For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.’ ”
New American Bible, Revised Edition. (Washington, DC: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2011), Lk 14:22–24.

The "all sorts of people" offended the conservatives, who wanted to hold
up theological filters, to filter out "undesirables" from coming to God.

"Liberals" were often insulted that this church leader would not abandon
the historical theology of the church, and would not sanction the "alternate"
theologies, and would not sanction those in need to stay in the highways and
byways, and call THAT Christianity.

1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2 to the church of God that is in Corinth, to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
New American Bible, Revised Edition. (Washington, DC: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, 2011), 1 Co 1:1–3.

Francis recognized that all sorts of people call Jesus "Lord", and different
Christian groups ought also to recognize this.

In all this, Francis was as repugnant to all sorts of Christians, because he
rejected the assertion that

"Our specific denomination, owns Christ."

It may be uncomfortable to many of us, that Francis embraced very openly some
of the hard teachings of Jesus (who also offended many religious people in the
first century), that are rarely mentioned in the Sunday sermons. But, he embraced
BOTH the radical power of God to tranform us, but ALSO that Christians should
NOT erect barriers that would stop people from coming to Christ.

This pope was more connected to ordinary people than many before him.

Pope Francis was about breaking down walls with a world far away from the church and blind to its beating heart. He connected to that broken world with a message of hope.

He did not use doctrine to filter people out from a relationship with God but he did hold fast to the faith.

He weakened authentic Christianity within Catholicism by disregarding Christian norms in favour of something more resembling Episcopalianism. I see no evidence of him being especially faithful or concerned with actually preserving Catholicism.

The cause of death for Pope Francis has been released, hours after the Vatican announced that the head of the Roman Catholic Church died at age 88.

Vatican News reported that the pontiff died as a result of a stroke that was followed by a coma, along with irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.

Francis had a history of pulmonary issues, including acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, multiple bronchiectases, high blood pressure and Type II diabetes.

It's difficult to be pastoral when you are addressing billions of people that live in diverse cultural and economic contexts.

I guess there is always a risk of being so perceived when you sit with tax collectors and prostitutes

If someone frequently associates with Prostitutes it is right to assume they use their services. Most people aren't like our Lord and Francis most definitely was not either.
