Well, Philippians is (subjectively) my favorite Bible book, or among these.

The Epistle of Joy exalts the Lord Jesus, Who was obedient unto death.

It links joy with prayerfulness and thankfulness.

And stresses the believer's peace in Christ.

"Thus found in fashion as a man,
All blameless, spotless, pure,
He was obedient unto death,
Sin's judgment to endure."

YW, and I love how chapter 4 links joy, prayerfulness and thankfulness, similar to Paul in 1 Thess. 4.16-18

Chapter 4 verse 8: 'Whatever things are true...honest..pure...lovely..of good report...' etc is one of my favorite Bible verses.

Blessings.

Ms. brinny:

And you know, the Lord Jesus is the perfect fufillment of all those things: 'true'; He is the Truth (John 14.6); 'honest'(or honorable); in Him, all the promises of God are yea and amen (2 Cor. 1.20); 'just': through Him, God is 'just and the justifier' (Romans 3.26); 'pure': He is the spotless Lamb of God (1 Peter 1.19), 'lovely' : altogether lovely (Song of Solomon 5.16).

Blessings.

Yes, it is a good thing to think on Him..and Jesus as a window to the Father. Jesus..our Savior, our healer, our King, our Lord, our friend, and on and on. I like to picture Him with children or healing the sick or standing on a hilltop preaching to so many or walking through the streets, etc. That is so good and pure and lovely.......and True for sure!

Ms. jannikitty: It's good to seek for and find Christ in all the Scriptures! :)

It's certainly a generally Biblical sentiment, whether or not it's a Biblical quotation.

what sorta stood out for me is how God's Word fills the author of the quote with joy and rejoicing.....

and what also came to mind is that many don't tie God's Word to either joy or rejoicing....

Well: :)

If we look at Phlippians 4.4-7 and also at 1 Thessalonians 5.16-18, Paul ties joy with prayer and thankfulness. I've probably mentioned this before but it's something I noticed.

Blessings.

Yes, one of the reasons i find Paul, his writings, and his testimony so precious...amen :)

He truly is a dear man, the great Apostle Paul. What would Christian testimony have been without him?

Blessings.

yes, i somehow keep forgetting that he was a fer-real "missionary"...wow, God soooo equipped Paul for this very radical ministry, didn't He?

Yes, He did. As Saul, he sat at the feet of Gamaliel, and was saturated with an immense knowledge of the Old Testament, but it wasn't mixed with true faith.

The Damascus Road conversion saw to that problem, however: interesting that it occurred between the chief Jewish city, Jerusalem and the chief Gentile city, Damascus, which has witnessed every event in recorded human history except for those of the first chapters of Genesis.

He, who had been an Hebrew of the Hebrews, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ became the Apostle to the Gentiles.

To me, his Epistle to the Philippians is the absolute antithesis to the severities of the Old Testament law.

Blessings.
