Yes, and part of this is that we no longer enforce prerequisites for Master's degrees. The universities are too desperate for students to do that. Traditionally a two-year Master's degree in a discipline required four years of undergraduate preparation in a related discipline.
I thought of this, and the benefits of knowing an Iron Age language to understand things that our modern languages have trouble grasping. Maybe some Bronze Age languages to boot.


He tied in Paul Mankowski the great Jesuit at large no less, with our theme here about amnesia and incomplete learning, and praying the Liturgy of the Hours. It is good to be connected to old ways, not being an amnesiac.

Since we are dreaming, It seems to me that a survey course in theology from Pre-Christ up through the heresies, creeds, enlightenment, reformation, and Vatican II. Smatterings of Latin, Greek and probably, French and German would naturally be part of that. Such a general, superficial grasp of the past would help understand the present. Baroque era theology would then have its context.

I think even homilies ought to be at least making some minimal reference to the fullness of this history when it can help open up the scripture of the day.
