Ostrich farms in the desert? Considering the amount of water and grain required, that doesn't sound cost effective at all. You'd probably be much better off farming edible plants that can handle the dry conditions.
I didn't know they were a food people rely on. Although there are farms here i have never seen ostrich food available. Can you eat the bird also i used to have ducks and people clambered for their eggs. I never ate them. So why not geese an ducks. They don't bite either if raised from youth and they're cheaper to feed. Take less space and you can have them in your own yard.

You can. Ostrich meat is a red meat which is somewhat similar to beef. Although I have no idea whether farming them on a mass scale is actually a viable prospect with the returns that the OP is suggesting.
Ostriches have evolved to have desert adaptations.
Mankind was originally created to be a vegetarian ... later God gave permission to eat some animals but categorized them as clean and unclean ... permission to eat animals that were "clean". Ostriches are considered unclean.
