Hello folks. Today's devotional is a long one, so let's get straight to it.

Date
June 7, 2024 | On Fire for the Lord
Verse
Psalm 39:3-7 (NKJV): "My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue: “Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. Indeed, You have made my days as hand breadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them. And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You."

Matthew 5:16 (NKJV): "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV): "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire."
Explanation
Psalm 39:3-7 is a prayer of David expressing his awareness of his mortality and frailty before God. He recognizes that his life is short and that every person is like vapor or a shadow in comparison to God's eternal existence. David pleads with the Lord to grant him knowledge of his end and the measure of his days, acknowledging that he is but a fragile and transient being.

Matthew 5:16, on the other hand, calls on Christians to let their light shine before others, showcasing the good works that stem from their faith. This passage emphasizes the importance of living a life that reflects the love and grace of God, so that others may be drawn to Him through our actions. Being "on fire" for Jesus and spreading God's kingdom means living a life fully committed to Him and sharing His love and message with the world around us.

Hebrews 12:28-29 emphasizes the importance of living a godly life with reverence and awe before God. The passage suggests that we should strive to serve Him acceptably, recognizing that He is a consuming fire, full of power and majesty. As we serve Him, we are to do so with a sense of fear and reverence, understanding that our relationship with Him is not casual or trivial.
Societal Relevance
In the 21st century, where things may seem tough, sometimes one’s eagerness for the Lord may wane. It is normal to have plateaus and rough times in our spiritual journeys. We are all human, and we will encounter challenges and setbacks, even in our walk with God. However, it is essential to remember that God is faithful and that He is always with us, even in the midst of our struggles. We can lean on Him for strength and guidance, trusting that He will see us through and that He will use our experiences to shape us into the person He intends us to be. Please remember to set aside time each day to communicate with God through prayer. This can include praying for yourself, your loved ones, and for the needs of the world.

To be eager for the Lord in modern society, Christians can do the following:
  1. Read the Bible daily: Make it a habit to read the Bible every day. This can help deepen your understanding of God's character and His plan for your life.
  2. Attend church regularly: Being part of a local church community can provide support, encouragement, and opportunities for spiritual growth.
  3. Seek out spiritual mentors: Find individuals in your church or community who can offer guidance, encouragement, and wisdom as you navigate your faith journey.
  4. Engage in acts of service: Look for opportunities to serve others, whether it's through volunteering at a local organization, helping a neighbor, or participating in a mission trip.
  5. Practice gratitude: Cultivate a heart of gratitude by regularly expressing thanks to God for His blessings in your life.
  6. Seek accountability: Find a trusted friend, mentor, or small group to hold you accountable in your faith journey and provide encouragement and support when needed.
  7. Set aside time for reflection: Take time regularly to reflect on your spiritual growth and progress, and consider ways to deepen your relationship with God.
  8. Practice forgiveness: Forgiveness is an essential part of the Christian faith. Seek to forgive others as you have been forgiven by God.
  9. Seek out opportunities for spiritual growth: Consider attending a retreat, taking a class or workshop, or engaging in other activities that can help deepen your faith and understanding of God.
  10. Cultivate a heart of worship: Make time each day to express your love and adoration for God through music, prayer, or other creative expressions.
  11. Live out your faith: Put your faith into action by living out your values and beliefs in your daily life. This can include speaking kindly to others, being honest and trustworthy, and showing compassion to those in need.
  12. Stay connected: Maintain relationships with other believers and seek out opportunities to connect with others in the body of Christ.
  13. Practice spiritual disciplines: Consider incorporating spiritual practices such as fasting, meditation, or journaling into your daily routine as a way to deepen your spiritual connection with God.
  14. Seek out opportunities for evangelism: Share your faith with others and look for opportunities to share the love of Christ with those around you.
For myself, while I would not use the term “on fire for God”, I have become more enthusiastic about my faith over the past half-year. In August 2023, I joined an online Christian forum to discuss Christianity and fellowship with others. Fast forward a few months, and in April of 2024, I started to use a free, privately run, offline AI on my laptop to make devotionals to post on the forum, and share with my dad. In fact, this devotional was made at least 75% by the Mistral 7B Instruct v0.2 (AI), except for the prompt, and this life anecdote. Honestly, without Jesus in my life, Mistral AI and the forum, Bible reading would not have been my thing. Lastly, joining a young adult group at my church in May has also helped me begin fellowship with like-minded Christian individuals. In summary, the Holy Spirit, advanced technology, and people have brought me more enthusiasm for studying God's teachings, and I am thankful deep-down for Jesus who has strengthened my faith.

This is nice to read. Normally for me when I spend time with God I go to biblehub.com to do my daily devotionals. I like all the different commentaries I could read on there. I also wanted a change of pace. I normally go to Reddit to try to interact with other believers but it is just too combative over there so it's nice to find these forums. God bless.

Thank you. I like biblegateway.com. Reddit is toxic.

God bless you as well. :)
