• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Since I have gotten engaged I have decided to show my fiance some of my posts here. Hello Danilla!!! What I would really like is for those of you who are married which is most of you, to share with us a little bit of what to expect as far as OCD affecting your marriage and engagment. With everything that has happened it is like Im cured and I kind of had a dispensational view of my OCD as being a part of a specific learning period of my life. However , I know that when this all dies down I may experience OCD again and it could be a lifelong struggle. Its not that I have a fear of hell anymore its morso a fear of struggling with my spiritual walk and in other non-spiritual ways and worst off in regards to loving Danielle. God confirmed to me that I am his. In the worst of my OCD Danielle told me to ask God to show me I was his. He has used her to show me I am his.

If this is a bad I idea let me know or just dont reply

i'm uber OC... my hubby is fastidious and probly borders OC. lol. our first fight was over our Obsessions. before we married, we talked about our habits... we got into a conversation that made us realize what kind of distress we would cause the other with our obsessions. I.E. we'd walk around our own home tense and jumpy, afraid to irritate or upset the boat. i called off the wedding. but my hubby didn't let me. we thought of things to comphremise on. now... married and years later... we've never again fought over it. he's always respected my boundries, i have always tried (abit harder for me than for him) to respect his. we just have learned to have our own areas, and not be offended when the other does a no-no. ^_^ so we don't press eachother into the molds we ourselves fit into.

go to premarital counselling. it is a blast! you get to learn 'married people skills' at the same time getting prepared for stating your marriage on godly and wise ground. it really is a blast. we had loads of fun. it was intimate and spiritual flirting, with a chaperone. ;) lol.

First of all, congratulations!

You are way ahead of where I was when I got married. Although there were many signs that I had this problem, I had no idea that my "spiritual" struggles were ocd related until we had been married for 7 years. God used her to support me when everything else caved in. God used this situation to strengthen our faith and open up our communication even further. She has been so patient with me.

I think it's great that you and Danielle are already aware of this issue. As a married couple you will bear one another's burdens. Hope this helps....

God bless!

I too am engaged, and I have OCD. The one thing I can say is that I think he knows it's going to be difficult at times. (I have a lot of arbitrary cleanliness problems, for example. I'm a slob and will wade through weeks of old cans and boxes, and have piles of clean clothes on the floor because I'm too lazy to put them away, but I CANNOT STAND IT when someone walks on my carpet or rugs with shoes on or sleeps in by bed without showering first. See what I mean? Arbitrary.) He is, however, very patient and understanding, and I know I can talk to him when things are getting frustrating for me. Even if he doesn't understand my "quirks," he is respectful and understands that it's much more frustrating for me than it is for him.

Good luck!
