NRSV-CE or RSV-CE?

Hi,
I've found both the NRSV-CE and the RSV-CE (unfortunately no study version...) that I'm able to but easily here in Sweden. Which one is best?

RSV-CE. The NRSV-CE contains inclusive "gender neutral" language that robs Scripture of its intended meaning. The RSV-CE is also known as the Ignatius Bible and is a fantastic cross-denomination bible to use because it was translated by a group of Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and secular linguists.

The RSV-CE. The NRSV-CE has inclusive language, and that, as the Vatican seems to tell us, is a no-no in liturgy since it changes some of the prophecies about the coming of the Messiah plus slightly changes the meanings of other passages.

Yeah, the NRSV is kind-of a farce (IMO), skip that one. When did God decide that "inclusive language" and "political correctness" should take a part in translating His Word???

The RSV, on the other hand, is my favorite translation

Could you give me an example where the NRSV's invlusive language robs Scripture of its intended meaning? The most common thing I've noticed is changing brothers to brothers and sisters when Paul addresses a church.

I don't have an NRSV, but in high school we had to use the Catholic Youth Bible. I think it was a NAB, but it used gender-neutral language. "Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of people." I don't know if it changes the meaning in this instance, but it sounds dreadfully awkward and I found the overt attempts at "inclusiveness" very distracting. Although one could argue for that passage about something to do with calling only men to the priesthood...

But it any case, it's not a true translation if we inject our PC-ness into it. Reminds me of the verse in Revelation forbiding us to change any part of the prophecy. If it's ok to do it for gender, why wouldn't it be ok to "correct" other "non-inclusive" passages? Scripture is not politically correct. "Neither fornicators, adulterers, practicing homosexuals... shall inherit the kingdom of God" is about as non-inclusive as it gets. Get over it.

If the Greek uses a neutered male term, I don't see how using a gender neutral or terms of both genders is changing the gender.

The RSV-CE is a must to have! It reminds me a lot like the NIV which I loved as a Baptist (and still kind of like as a Catholic )

Is it Ignatius that makes that great blue-book version? I want to get one of those.

I use the Oxford RSV Annotated Edition (?) with Apocrypha. Unfortunately it doesn't have the Deuterocanonicals mixed in their correct order, but it does have some good annotations and cross-references. I tend to find it hard to locate any information without good indexes and cross-references. The Bible is a big book ... or big collection of books, I should say

I've got plenty of NIV bibles around, too, and I also think it's a pretty good translation. There's a new Zondervan bible out called the Archeological Study Bible (NIV translation), and I think I want me a copy of that. Maybe not as a main-carry Bible, but as a bookshelf reference. It's an awesome publication.
